My kingdom for a good nights sleep

I have a problem, folks. I go to bed too late. I wake up too early. And I have a horrible nights sleep in the middle. I am blessed with a wonderful 2 year old that values his sleep as much as my husband and I. But I am jealous. Jealous of Garett and jealous of Tyler. For they have found good sleeping positions, night time rituals and have a nice solid sleep. Lately, I have been tossing and turning. I cant get comfortable and I get super grouchy and want to do nothing but kick Tyler repeatedly for being in dream-land bliss lol. I'm fairly certain it's my pillows. My quest for the perfect pillow is ongoing, and it truly does change your sleep. We have a nice soft bed, I realised while I was pregnant that sleeping with a pillow between your knees DOES help those pains you get through the day and nothing beats sleeping on fresh sheets more often than most people do. But my pillows. I can't get it right. First I thought it would be brilliant to sleep on a cloud. WRONG. My ...

How to waste a day: Amy Style

I know you are all dying to know how I spend the time I get to myself (which happens so rarely). On the off day that I am off and daycare is open and G goes there while I can catch up, or if Ty has offered to take G for a day while I gallivant, here are the things I like to do: 1) Groceries. I love to do groceries when the store is dead and I can take my time reading labels, feeling fruit for freshness/firmness and enjoying the experience. I hate grocery shopping when I have a grabby toddler, an impatient husband who doesn't know how to pack a cart and when I'm dodging people left, right and center and waiting in a lineup that is longer than my driveway. 2) I love to have Netflix binge sessions. I like to have just done groceries before I do this so that I may have the appropriate amount of snacks to fill this time (you never eat meals when you binge watch things--only snacks that take less than 5 minutes to assemble). I just finished Pretty Little Liars (all caught up now)...

Our Valentines Meal

Image
Here are the beautiful flowers Tyler brought home for Valentines Day :) My little holiday decor at work with a craft G made at daycare! I bought a new white wine for us to pair with seafood at dinner--it was good! Even Ty liked it. I bought two reds to pair with the beef. I'm not a huge fan of reds, but it was ok! I also bought this one to try at a later time. One glass was enough last night lol After dinner we each had a sip of this ice wine. I'm nit a fan, but ice wine is Ty's favourite.  Here's the table :) Beef Wellington with a heart on top ! Crab cakes with a Cajun aioli . Mmmmm Field mushroom and gruyere rarebit on sourdough  We were all in bed pretty early and slept in! I woke up at 7:20 , but the rest of the house followed at 8ish. We decided it was a French toast kind of morning :) Rest of the day will be spent relaxing and cleaning! Ty and G get a day to themselves tomorrow since i don't get family day off :( Hope everyone had a wonderful valentines day! ...

Valentine's Day

I'm not a typical "woman" on Valentine's Day. I don't expect big expensive gifts. I don't expect breakfast in bed, or to be catered to all day. Sure I enjoy each and every one of those things, but Valentine's is not the time I appreciate them the most. I expect to be LOVED everyday. And that's not too much to ask when you have a wonderful husband and the best little guy ever. Instead, I like to use Valentine's day to treat my man well. He is so good at trying to show me his appreciation through the year, but I am too caught up in the little things to reciprocate the appreciation. Too many times I just say "thanks" in passing if he brushes my car off for me, or to focus on the negatives and dwell on those (leaving dirty clothes in the kitchen, dirty dishes on the nightstand, etc). On my goal to become a more positive person, I need to embrace being more appreciative each and everyday. But since tomorrow is valentine's day, I will dra...

Love/Hate

Things I am loving: - Tyler being home early - My new parking spot at work (it's a truck sized spot and is SO close to the entrance and exit--no more going down three stories to park!) - All the things coming up to look forward to - That me and two girls from work are taking an actual lunch today and going to Target, going for lunch and to grab cupcakes for the office for V-day - The morning Hot Tub on long drives into work - Garett being so playful and smart - Catching up on work after being off for 2 days - My new (though temporary) hair do (I have to go back on March 11 for the second part) - Writing in new notebooks/new office supplies - New found love of socks Things I am hating: - How long it takes to lighten you hair when your hair is naturally darker--well...in a healthy way anyways. I could go lighter quickly, but it would take a long time at the salon and kill my hair. - When it snows a bit and people freak out. The roads weren't even bad this morn...

Valentines Day for a two-year-old

Image
Ok, so I am (for once), ahead if the game. This momma is ready for Valentines Day. Yes, two year olds hand out Valentines (I got caught with my pants down on this one when I assumed one year olds didn't  do this last year lol). I was thinking of just baking something to send with the cards, but I think this is a bit cuter (and one of the older boys that come after school is allergic to nuts, so I didn't want to go there if he couldn't share with everyone). I just grabbed a few cute heart inspired things (bakery bags, erasers, a little box filled with stickers, and note pads ). Obviously also "Cars" Valentines --that's what G picked out of the selection. (Shocker, I know) So, come Friday morning, I am ready!!! I have a pork tenderloin in the slow cooker...what is happening to me? Not flying by the seat of my pants on weeknights feels so good!!

Garett's Second Birthday Party-- Caillou Style

Image
If you are the mother to, well, any child, you know about Caillou. I am not quite sure what the grand appeal is, but Garett is OBSESSED with this show. So, I knew that it would be the theme for his party this year. What they don't tell you (before deciding to do this as the theme), is that since Caillou is an older show, and is all re-runs, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get anything Caillou party related. I loaded up my cart on the PBS site, paid and all. A day later, I get an email saying EVERYTHING I ordered was out of stock and not being brought back...everything except for a tshirt I ordered personalized (and then paid more in shipping than the shirt was worth). Great...now what do I do? There was literally only one other site I could find anywhere that had Caillou decor--so if you're looking, save yourself the heart ache and just go right to Birthday Express. I ordered these coloured paper balls from Party City. Centerpieces and place mats (placemats flip over and ar...
