Housewarming

Suckers for punishment--that's what we are. Tyler and I have a gift for picking the busiest time in our life and planning things right smack in the middle of them.

He didn't want to wait too long after moving to have a housewarming--because that's half the fun--not being totally unpacked and nothing on the walls--feels more like a "welcome to this house and our journey here" that way.I am from the same school of thought on that, but that's a rule of thumb for normal people to follow. We are not ordinary people. We are exceptionally busy all the time, and we were total space cadets when we picked a day 10 days after move in (and about 3 hours of work towards unpacking TOTAL put in).

Such is life though, and it will be one more thing to check off of our ever growing "to do" list.

Since it's a potluck/BYOB and meat as well, it takes a lot of the pressure off of me. I'm not decorating for it or putting out fancy foods. Instead, my part will be premade sandwiches to put in the oven. Similar to this--ham and cheese sliders that are no fuss, no muss to put together and serve. Because I'm classy like that, I won't even use a glass dish to heat them up--just a foil baking pan. Also...none of that weird fancy onion/poppy seed blend on top lol

I will also make some cream cheese pinwheel things and just buy some premade dip and stuff to snack on. I'm not buying salads and stuff for everyone this time around. I would rather save the money. When it's large groups of people, they never seem to care about the effort I put into things like this, so may as well feed them like cattle instead hahah. I much rather my dinner parties with wine and fine food above these types of events, but hey...that's just my age poking through I think :)

Ty has a busy day today--we need a tv stand for our big tv. I potentially threw out a piece for the stand a while back (since we had it hanging on a wall bracket in the other house, I didn't think we needed those particular parts), we have to find the matching stand. Hopefully Stereo Plus & Design has one to buy!

We also need to buy a shed for out back. We found a nice preassembled 10x12 that Ty wants to get today. Our concern is getting it into the yard in one piece. We don't think it will fit between the houses with the van or truck pushing it in the trailer, so he may have to bring home the forklift machine and do it that way. Fun  times. But we NEED it. We don't want the garage to be a dumping grounds for our outside equipment, so that's big enough for the lawn tractor, snowblower, patio furniture in the winter to be stored in.

Oh did I mention I have a ton of stuff to do around the house to make it inhabitable for anyone other than us? haha Laundry galore. The walls looks like a mechanic was rubbing his dirty hands all over them (thanks boys--and the lower portion was all G). The windows are filthy on the front door and patio door, due to a certain little munchkin who is not used to being able to see outside whenever the heck he wants. The kitchen table is still not properly assembled and the spare room bed is a mattress on the floor with the bed in pieces leaning against the wall.

Other than all the shopping I need to get done and the cleaning/tidying I need to do as well, it should be a relaxing weekend. HA!

Next weekend, we are hoping to get out to visit my family, but we will see how things go with the store--I may be trekking out on my own! haha

I got my hair done last night, and I kind of love how it looks. I showed her the picture and instantly, she was in love with the colour. I let her pick what she thinks would be the closest, and she explained that the stuff she was putting in was all a bit brighter than I was expecting, but assured after 3 or 4 washes that the reddish tinge would become more burgundy, and the blonde highlights would come down to a more coppery blonde, like I wanted after the red ran into them a bit. She's pretty great, so of course she is right. :)

I am so thankful it is Friday though--and 1pm almost at that...2.5 more hours :) Hope everyone has a fun (and safe) weekend!

  1. After reading this, it made me really want a girl's night with the wine and a nice dinner somewhere! I'm with you though...I love hosting things but sometimes you just have to pick the battles - either go all out and have the decorations and whatnot or just laid back and easy. You guys JUST moved, no one expects a lavish setting right now.
I can't wait to see your hair!! and the new place lol!
