Touching Base

It's been a while...

In reality I feel it hasn't been that long, but this last week has been killer on my nerves, on my patience and on my sanity.

How do people move every year? I don't understand it....when we rented, it seemed like everytime the lease came up, we were packing up and moving. And in all honesty, I didn't think moving would bother me so much this time around. Last time it was a long transition, because we were renovating before we moved into our first home. This house was pretty well turn-key (aside from the intention of finishing the basement once we are settled), so I assume (SO SO wrongly) that it would be fine.

A few days before the move, we had rented a big 26' truck. Ty and I loaded some. Some friends sporadically came to help load, and when we thought we had a handle on it and that there wasn't THAT much left to move, we turned the gears way down. The day of the move came, they started loading stuff and we realized just how much was left. WTF? How was that even possible?? We quickly realized that 1 26' truck wasn't enough, so we last minute called U-Haul, and they happened to have another....we filled that to the brim as well...jesus...We've got stuff, and lots of it.

The guys had a long tedious morning of lifting heavy thing after heavy thing. My car, a friends car, Ty's truck and van were all also packed to the max--and I had to go back and make a load of just fridge/freezer stuff and the random stuff from the garage...not fun. Then Ty had to go back with the dump trailer and do an entire load of stuff I just decided we didn't want to move here...oh the joys!

We got our keys around 4pm and started the task of unloading the truck. Which was going alot faster until people decided to come over and Garett came home. The progress grinded to a halt and we visited until they left and we were too tired to continue. Ty had brought one of the trucks back at this point, so we just called it a night.

Our mattress was still packed in the second truck, so we laid down on the spare room double bed mattress on the floor. We are used to the king and being able to spread eagle and toss and turn, Not here. Ty is longer than double mattresses, and add to that extreme exhaustion (SNORING) and the fact I hadn't found any comforters. pillows or sheets. We slept with throw blankets.

I laid down and laid as stiff as a log. I couldn't move without kicking Tyler (who decided the middle of the mattress was his domain). G had gone to bed around 8:30. 10:45 comes around and he starts having a night terror. So I go in. He stops. I lay down, he starts. I go in, he stops. This happened for about 30 minutes. Finally, I went in and scooped him up and rocked him for a while until he stopped fussing at all. around 11:30 he was back in bed sleeping soundly. (perfectly fine since..weird!)

Me. no.

3am.4am.5am...is anyone else ever going to wake up?? I was so bored. We had no internet, my phone died and I didn't know where the charger was, no tv was hooked up, etc etc...it was the longest night ever. I don't sleep well in strange places. Finally Ty got up around 7,and G continued to sleep until about 8:15. So Ty went out and finished uunloading what he could do alone. I went out and helped with the heavier stuff and we unpacked for most of the morning.

Things are coming together a little more, though things will never feel totally done until the painting and decorating happens, but that will come in time. It feels like home. The kiddo loves it and the cats adjusted very well, we couldn't be happier.

So with being nearly done packing (aside from the books in the basement and some random garage stuff and misplaced around the house furniture that we don't quite know what to do with (*cough* sell it *cough*), I decided to dig into G's room. I had gone to babies r us to buy a new set of monitors, picked up some new baby gates I actually love and saw the hamper I wanted for his room, so I grabbed that. I had one piece...I was a determined woman.

I went onto the website for the wall art (the cute painted salvaged wood pallet art)...one a shark, one a whale and one something else.. They were big pieces, and I was so excited to have a cool focal wall....I see something that instantly angered me. All Not available (out of stock) other than the whale--which would look totally ridiculous by itself. I was frantic. I searched high and low online for other pieces I loved, or would even settle for and found NOTHING. I took everything out of my cart. I am back to square one with his room. I can't make up my mind on anything now, I feel confused...first world problems!

I decided instead to focus on getting everything in order here first before having more boxes arriving in the mail. So I went shopping for a fall wardrobe for G. I went shopping for groceries. I went shopping for fall decor (which my dad helped me put up yesterday, and I think the house looks really good!). I shopped for stuff for Ty's store.  I shopped, I shopped, I shopped. Still no inspiration.

Oh well--I guess all in all, we can't complain. While the move was chaotic, we learned 2 valuable lessons. 1) next time, regardless of what we think we know, we WILL get movers. 2) We are very lucky to have what we have--our dreams and our reality are starting to catch up to each other, and as we sit back and look at the things that hard work buys, the negativity from moving day kind of fades away into the background :)

I am off now to cook up some dinner for my boys, after a long Monday back to work...when's the next long weekend?? haha

Have a good one, my friends!
