Dominican Republic 2017 conclusion DAYS SEVEN AND EIGHT

Image
Day 7 was a relax/resort day. We were both feeling exhausted from being on the go and also so many naps lol But when we were sitting down at the lounge, we ran into a couple from Toronto.  As we were talking to them, we found out they were also UVC members, so we started talking about the benefits. Another couple next to us who was a school teacher and the husband owned a car dealership had just been to the meeting and were deliberating on becoming members. The husband thought we were "plants " sent by the company haha so we discussed with them for a while.  Before you knew it, we had all had too much to drink, so we went back to our rooms and all went to dinner. We had Mexican again.  But no sooner had dinner finished, we were all having more drinks at the lounge, then went to the lobby bar, and then danced the night away at the disco --even tyler danced!!! We all ended up going for a swim around 3:30 am and all went our separate ways around 3:45 ...

Dominican Republic DAY SIX

Day 6 was a busy one! We were up at the crack of dawn to have a bite and catch our ride! We booked this excursion through Viator, which I had never heard of before. It turned out AMAZING. The transfers, excursion and the guides! First stop was at Altos de Chavon. A Mediterranean inspired town built by a rich architect in 1983. He built it to be reminiscent of an 18th century Italian village. Why? Because he had a daughter that wanted to go to Italy for university. And he didn't want her to go lol  We viewed the town, the river and the amphitheater. Then stopped and did some shopping and picked up a $2 beer  Then we were on the road to a marina to board our catamaran. Did some tanning and dancing and had pictures done on the way to saona island. When we arrived we swam and I had some braids put in and a massage and lunch.we enjoyed for a few hours before we got on our speedboat to head to the natural swimming pool.   At the swi...

Dominican Republic Day FOUR AND FIVE

On day 4, we spent the majority of our day dealing with upgrading our AMresorts membership. We were originally owners of a base level membership pacakage, with the intention of kicking it up to the 30 year package. After negotiating and weighing out our options / what we would use , we settled in the 20 year Grey pearl package instead. That evening , we got dressed up and went for a little dinner in the preferred lounge, took our coupons to the casino and played a little roulette. I made some money making bets based on #13, and were in bed quite early since we had another early morning to follow. The next morning, on Day 5, we were picked up at 7:30 by an open air bus. It had rained a bit overnight I think, and the air felt chilly as we gained speed. Luckily it didn't take long to warm up! We drove into the Anamuya mountains to a 5 acre enclosure that houses 35 squirrel monkeys. Monkeyland Safari. In my opinion: heaven on earth. You get to trek through their paths and are give...

Dominican Republic DAY THREE

Image
We spent the entire day relaxing by the pool. Reading. Having a few frozen drinks, napping and swimming  We watched a few of the events of the day. A parade, and went to the pool foam party.  That evening we had a nice Italian dinner with some wine :) Afterwards, we went back to the room to put on all of our st pattys day stuff ! We hung out at the lobby bar, went and played at the casino and went to the dance club for a bit before hitting the hay!

Dominican Republic DAY TWO

Image
We were up bright and early, since we had an excursion picking us up at 7am. We went to the preferred club restaurant for a quick breakfast, and admired the sunrise.  We went and sat in the lobby waiting for our guide to pick us up. It wasn't long before he was there and took us to the garage where the fun buggies are.  We got lucky and it was just us an one other guy from Russia in our group. We paid to drive our own buggy , so the other guy drove behind us.  We stopped for some gas before hitting the road.  Our first stop on the back roads was at a grocery. Since the huts here don't have fridges, they have little stores they go to to buy just what they can use that day. A scoop of butter, a handful of rice, etc.  Afterwards we visited a rooster coop and saw a cockfighting demonstration with retired roosters. Pretty scary ! Totally legal there too! Continued on tovisit an elementary school. Two classrooms. One was grade 1-...

Dominican Republic 2017 DAY ONE

We just so happened to have an awake little munchkin girl when we were ready to head out. We said goodbye to Garett the night before . When he left to spend a night at his granny's house.  Our uber took a while to arrive because of the weather. But we made it on time, skipped the huge line because we upgraded to options plus.  We sat at the restaurant in the airport ,had breakfast and watched lines of plows clearing runways.  I was happy to see we were in row 13. We had an amazing flight down. Smooth as glass. We received our free snack, bottle of champagne each and another drink each.  I even napped a bit!:) Upon arrival, we skipped another line since we already had our tourist cards. Our Amstar transfer was right on time, sitting there with Tyler's name. They took our luggage, loaded us into our private transfer and we were on our way! A quick 10 minute ride.  Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of champagne, our room upgrade...
