Dominican Republic DAY TWO
We were up bright and early, since we had an excursion picking us up at 7am. We went to the preferred club restaurant for a quick breakfast, and admired the sunrise.
We went and sat in the lobby waiting for our guide to pick us up. It wasn't long before he was there and took us to the garage where the fun buggies are.
We got lucky and it was just us an one other guy from Russia in our group. We paid to drive our own buggy , so the other guy drove behind us.
We stopped for some gas before hitting the road.
Our first stop on the back roads was at a grocery. Since the huts here don't have fridges, they have little stores they go to to buy just what they can use that day. A scoop of butter, a handful of rice, etc.
Afterwards we visited a rooster coop and saw a cockfighting demonstration with retired roosters. Pretty scary ! Totally legal there too!
Continued on tovisit an elementary school. Two classrooms. One was grade 1-4 and another 5-7. Often teachers never show up at the smaller schools. This was the "big" elementary school. The kids walk for 5km each way to get there. Sad
But if you can get to the schools , they have a wonderful system. Free education. University included.
We went back to the main road and stopped in to ride some horses through the mountainside for a while lol. I had the crazy horse who didn't want to stay on the path haha
We went up the road more and visited a cigar factory and then a ranch for a homemade Dominican lunch. Yum!
We drove another 40 minutes and stopped in at Macau beach. SO beautiful omg.
After a swim we drove more to a huge complex of buildings to see chocolate being made, visit a rum bar for some samples. I bought these two types. One is pineapple and one caramel. Mmmm we also bought some hot chocolate mix. Tea and lotions
That evening we had the Japanese restaurant. It was very yummy!!
This was left for us at our turn down service :)
Here are the professional photographer photos (a few) from the DVD we bought
