FOUR day weekend recap
I am on an extra-long-weekend-high right now. I came into work 30 minutes early, and the day has been flying by!
This weekend was so nice in the sense that we didn't have much planned, and we knew it would be a quiet one (with two busy ones coming up!).
Thursday night, Tyler came home with a bouquet of flowers from his cousins flower business. "Just Because"...which are my favourite kind of flowers! the kids were in bed at the usual time and I decided to unwind with a nice long bubble bath with some of our new Aromatherapy bath foams from Bath and Body Works. That night was the Orange and Ginger "Energy" foam. Yes, that was a good idea! We watched some tv and were also in bed pretty early!
Friday we got up and took the kids to school/daycare together , and then we went home and I scrubbed the powder room on the mainfloor from top to bottom, did some laundry, and I went through ALL of our books. We had some books that we had quadruple copies of! I guess we liked it so much, we accidentally bought it a few times . oops! So all in all, I separated by author and boxed up about 100 books to get rid of. We gave some to friends, and the rest are going to value village.
We got ready and both headed over to Garett's school. They were having a Remembrance Day ceremony, and our friend, who is a Major, came in her dress blues as one of the four honorary guests. It was such a nice little ceremony. I didn't realize how few students were in Garett's school. The ceremony was in the library, and there is MAYBE 150 kids in his entire school (K-6). I like that. Anyways, once I got over how an entire school could fit in a library with tons of room to spare, I marveled at how well behaved Garett was. His sweet little face just taking it all in--the slideshow, the choir singing, a teacher playing the trumpet, a student playing the fiddle, people reading, the special guests high fiving everyone--he loved it. I got to take a picture with him and Jami afterwards, and walked him back to his classroom.
After that was wrapped up, we treated Jami to some lunch before she headed home for the day. Tyler and I went over to Party City to look for Fiesta themed table cloths, etc, but there was literally nothing there, so we will improvise.
Tyler took a nap, and I went through toys. We donated two garbage bags of toys and kids clothes to the churches "free-store" and threw out two more garbage bags of other toys/kitchen stuff.
On Saturday, nothing was open in the morning, so we lounged around for a while, brought some books to Tyler's store for friends to pickup, and cleaned more. Garett and Tyler went for a visit to his moms house, and then over to our friends Rod and Sharon's house for dinner and to play with their grandkids/nephews son. Keira and I hung out at home and played and splashed in the tub. It was early to bed for the kids. Once they were asleep, Tyler and I brought snacks to the basement, put "Patriots Day" on the projector and gave each other foot massages. We were asleep by 10:00.
Sunday was another quiet day. We cooked up a huge Dutch Oven worth of meat sauce, and a slow cooker of chili. I also baked a zuchinni chocolate loaf--YUM. I had two big zuchinnis to get rid of, and the recipe took almost the entire two, and neither kid complained--they thought it was chocolate cake. Even I think it's delicious (and I'm a chocolate fiend). There wasn't any added sugar in it! So it was a winner recipe, I think. After it was all ready, I scrubbed the kitchen down COMPLETELY. Because it was so messy and there was sauces splattered all over the counters/stove/backsplash lol (men in the kitchen is a MESSY experience).
We had my mother in law over for a spaghetti and fresh bread dinner, and then the kids took a bath together (which they hardly ever do anymore, so cute when they do!), and everyone was off to bed VERY early--like prior to 7.
Yesterday was a holiday for Fed. Gov. employees, and we had a busy day ahead, so I knew I wasn't going to get much done.
I spent the morning organizing kitchen cupboards and putting out the stuff I do need for this coming Saturday. I did more laundry, and changed bedsheets. I swept the floors/under everything on the mainfloor and mopped. I picked Garett up from school around 12:30, and we headed to his Ophthalmologist appointment on Carling. He was slotted for 1:15PM, but this doctor runs SO late ALL OF THE TIME, and we were seen around 2:30. We were in and out with good news, in like 4 minutes flat once he saw us.
After that, G and I headed to Orleans to his dentist appointment. Tyler was in having his cleaning done, and once he was done, it was Garett's turn, so I headed out (Tyler stayed behind with him), grabbed something to eat, went home, watched an episode of my show and then headed out to get Keira. The boys were home already when I got back with Keira, so we had a quick dinner, baths and then it was off to bed shortly after for us all!
Back to reality this morning. I slept through my alarm a little bit-it was hard getting up since the kids let us sleep in until about 7:00 for the last few days, so 6AM came FAST!
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend :)
