Date day : Eco-Odyssee
This weekend was a pretty exciting one. Lots going on, and a lot of downtime as well :) We somehow managed to weave our ways through the storms, and never get caught in bad weather.
Saturday morning we slept in a little bit (until about 7:15), got dressed, put some stuff out for G, and once my parents arrived, we visited for a few minutes and headed out. At this point, we were running a little early so the original plan was just to pop into a dealership (Yes, still dabbling in the cheating on my car idea), and then stop for a sit down breakfast before heading out. One thing lead to another and I was test driving cars. At this point we were starting to run late, so I had to drag myself out of there and we had to settle for a drive thru breakfast on the way to Wakefield. Oops :)
Who would have thought a gem like this lived in the bush less than an hour from Ottawa?
Eco-Odyssee.
When you arrive, you watch a quick video describing the different adventures. We decided for a laid back day, we wanted to go at our own pace, so we decided on the Wanderer. The staff in the building was a little bored looking. They just didn't smile, they worked very robotically, they didn't really explain anything. This left a bad taste in my mouth. But I decided to let the experience speak for itself.
My main draw to come here was beavers. I think they are so hilarious looking, and I love them. I wanted to see beavers.
We saw a family of ducks swimming, two frogs, and a turtle on a log. That's it. I know it's the wilderness and they can't control what you see at any given time, and Tyler said this isn't a super active time in the season for most things, but I had my heart set on it, because I wouldn't be me if I didn't have unrealistic expectations of things lol.
But it seemed like every corner we turned in the maze was another "wow" moment. the views were incredible, the silence was heaven, and we enjoyed our company. It was a nice two hours in its own rite, and I'm happy we went, even with the lack of wildlife. Tyler is a pretty high strung guy, so it's nice to take him places where he is totally removed from reality, and has to just focus on one simple task and relax a bit.
There are not too many places around where you can be in the middle of a marsh land, see those sights, and feel safe (they give you a walkie talkie in case you need assistance). I definitely think everyone should go out just for the experience, and I hope you see some beavers if you do! lol
When we came home, it was showers and relaxing until Ty headed into town to visit a few birthday parties. The original plan was for both of us to make the rounds, but it didn't work out that way, so since it was Ty's family and friends birthday, he went in alone, and G and I hung back.
Sunday morning was another early one. We were up, tidied up a bit, put some laundry away, got ready, and I headed out for the trek to Kanata. I met up with two girlfriends for some brunch and a mimosa, and visited for a few hours. I left the house 40 minutes before G went for his nap, and he was still sleeping when I got home lol. Talk about momma timing! So I crawled into bed and shut my eyes for a few minutes, and when he woke up, we made some lunch and ran around playing hide and seek, spider cooties (his new game lol), building forts and relaxing. With the storms, we couldn't go outside to play :( When the tornado warnings were issued in our end, we went to the basement and played air hockey (he's a pro now), I taught him Mary had a Little Lamb on the piano, we flipped through some encyclopedia's , played fireman and took turns rescuing each other from the couch, played a game on the computer, and headed upstairs for a late supper once the warnings were lifted. We ordered some sandwiches in, and G was in bed early, so we watched Gone Girl.
All in all it was a great weekend :) Hope everyone else enjoyed as much as us!
