Slow Thursday Evening

Last night was a nice slow-paced but busy evening.

I was about 15 minutes early picking Garett up from daycare (on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a few weeks in the summer, our babysitter has to be gone by 3:50 since her son has swimming lessons--and to prevent myself from having to drive an extra 15 minutes, I like to just pick G up a bit early on those nights).

We always go home and then walk around the corner to get the mail. This is one of Garett's favourite parts of the day--and yesterday he was even more excited. He loves when I get packages in the mail, but yesterday it was his turn. His first "Little Passports" came in the mail. When I showed him the label on the box said his name, a huge grin covered his face, and he insisted on carrying "MY MAIL" back to the house. Pretty funny watching the little man carry a box half the size of him haha. But he was so, so proud.

We went inside and opened up the box. I explained the concept, and showed him to decorate the suitcase, and we found North America on his world map, read through the book and he carried the suitcase around for about 30 minutes.

Tyler was home pretty early, but had a horrible morning, so we decided while he was working on the car, to bake a cake. G loves to help me in the kitchen, so I gave him a few little jobs to do alone, and the rest he helped me with. buttered the pans with a Ziploc over his little hand, and he whisked the dry ingredients together. He counted the eggs as I cracked them into the mixer, he helped by telling me when I reached the right level when measuring, and helped dump things into the mixer. He got a hold of the leftover batter in the bowl, and boy was there a mess lol. But what other time do you get to squish cake batter between your fingers, right?! We washed up, and started dinner while the cakes baked.

We sat down to eat as a family, which we really love to do, and put time aside to do that. Just us talking about our days and focusing on G, and not on the tv, or our phones, or anything else.

I cleaned up the kitchen, and we started bath time. Garett was in bed pretty early (like pre-8:30), and I signed up for a beginners strength class on August 10. I am going to go with our babysitter, who is a member of this new gym up the road. All of the classes are 6 or less people, and the membership is pretty low cost for how one-on-one it is, so definitely worth a shot! They also do plyometrics classes, kettlebells, ab focused groups, bootcamps, etc. It's a younger guy that runs this small gym, and he is apparently very encouraging and sweet, which is what I need- I do NOT find motivation in tough love lol.

I sent my hair stylist a picture of what I want to do, and she told me she is maybe opening a salon in her house--which has me very excited. Yes, a bit farther of a drive, but it's about $45 cheaper each time I go. Win/win :)

T-5.5 hours until my vacation starts! Come on 3:00!! I have a meeting from 2-3, and I think it may get cancelled, so I may be able to sneak out a few minutes early as well :)

Happy Friday everyone!
