Mini Vacation Recap

Remember when the word "Vacation" meant something unexpected and exciting? Unknown amounts of kilometers put on the car, not knowing every plan/stop that would happen? Those days are gone when you have kids. Don't get me wrong, it's still fun and exciting, but in a much more structured way. Sometimes your vacation will be being at home doing nothing, while other times you load up the car and go--but it's more thought out.

I am coming off a 4-day long weekend. Wednesday afternoon Tyler headed out on a 7 hour journey to Manchester, New Hampshire for some Neptune Panel training. This is a life changing session for him. He is elbow deep in rebranding King Concrete, and looking with big doe eyes into the future. He has a busy week of approaching pool companies, gardening companies, landscaping companies, water parks, high end clientele. His future is bright, and I am so proud of him for taking this next step. The only thing that holds people back is fear. Fear of failure, of change, or of succeeding. Tyler has never shown any fear. He lives fiercely, and I admire him for that.

To say those three days away were a learning experience for Tyler, is a gross understatement. He came back rejuvenated, and eager. Motivation oozed out of him faster than I could process all of his plans and ideas for the future. That's another thing about him--he is successful independently in each endeavour he is a part of, and is always looking to the next thing. Stay tuned, some day you will read about my husband in an edition of The Economist, or Forbes, or something.

Wednesday I was at work, and had made pie for our social committee pie club--it got rave reviews (not to toot my own horn but mmmm)

Anyways, back to reality right now lol--while he was gone, I was off, and Garett had plans at daycare, so I would watch him bounce up the driveway in front of me to go into daycare, and I would head home. The Thursday I was off, I just caught up on laundry, watched a movie, cleaned up the kitchen and went through Garett's closet.

Friday, he was off to the splashpad with daycare, so I went to do some groceries, and bought a bunch of outside water play stuff, and set up our backyard like a little kids water park. He is a big fan of water play, and knowing it would be a scorching few days, it was a great idea lol. As soon as we pulled up, we ran inside to get his swim gear on and went out. He was excited to say the least. I had put up a big circle pool, filled up his water table with bubbly water, had the slip and slide rocking and a rainbow looking over head sprinkler. the bubble machine was busy blowing bubbles everywhere, and we ate some freezies and jumped around through water and splashed like crazy. It was like a scene out of a child's fantasy, I'm sure.

Waiting for the pool to fill, eating a freezie

Saturday Tyler had another 7 hour drive home ahead of him, so he estimated between 2 and 5 (depending on border waits, etc), so Garett and I played outside a bit in the morning, and he was pooped, so he went down for his nap around 11:45. Ty got home around 1:30 (fast at the border lol), and G slept until almost 4! We played outside again, and got dried off and went for a ride to DQ for some fruit smoothies. G played on the truck and merry go round in our little mall for about 30 minutes, and then we went home and relaxed until bed.

Sunday we all slept in. Garett slept until about 7:30, I changed his diaper and we all lounged and dozed off until about 9:15 in our bed watching cartoons. Got up, Ty made a big breakfast, and we played inside until nap time. Since he slept so much in the morning, he only had about an hour and 20 min nap. Once he woke up, he helped daddy wash the truck, and then him and I went for a walk to the park while Ty cleaned the inside of the cars. We came back, packed up a bag and headed into town to go to Tyler's moms house. It was hot out, so Ty and his mom went in the pool . Garett let Ty take him in , but he clung to him the whole time. They all got out, and we played in the yard a bit, and then I went in the pool, and G was ALL over that. We put his little lifejacket on, and in he came. I was holding him lightly at one point and he was kicking and moving his arms like crazy. Such a little swimmer. He was jumping off the steps to me by the end (I was catching him before he went under though, obviously). And here's the kicker--I taught him how to hold his breath, and quickly went under up to his eyes--and then asked to do it again! Better get this kid in swimming lessons soon--I think we have a little fishy on our hands :) I took his life coat off and held him while he felt like he was doing it on his own :) He was smiling and laughing, and just so proud of himself! He's getting so big :(....no one could believe the difference in demeanor between me being in the pool with him, and other people. Definitely a different level of trust with his momma!

When we got out after like an hour, we ordered Chinese food and ate like crazy. G ate mostly off granny's plate (lol). He wanted ALL of her broccoli and carrots, and the last little bit of her wonton soup. Then he agreed to eat some of his rice, chow mein and chicken lol. Silly boy!

We headed home aroun 6:45, watched How to Train Your Dragon with a bowl of cheese and strawberries, and were all in bed by 8:30.

It's hard to be back to work :(
