weekend recap
I am excited to get to a time in life again where my weekends feel like weekends! I just feel like we spend our entire weekends stressing out about things lately. There is a shift in that coming this week, and I couldn't be happier.
Thursday night our buyers did their inspection on our house, so we had to be out of the house for a few hours from 4-7. Turns out they only took an hour in our house, so we could have just gone home, but instead, we used that down time to drop G off with Granny and go see a few houses. We were feeling VERY discouraged that evening. All the yards were postage stamps. I couldn't see myself waking up and going down to any of those kitchens in the middle of the night, or how we would make the bedrooms work when they were so tiny. Overpriced, underdone. So many people lack pride of ownership and it really shows when you're looking at houses.
We went home and scoured the realtor.ca site. We decided to branch out our budget a little bit (mortgage brokers preapprove you for insane amounts, but we knew there was no way we wanted to live FOR our house, so we set a budget). Another amendment we made was to start looking at end unit townhouses, or semi detached homes. We sent off a list of 12 places to our realtor that night. She was booked solid most of the weekend, so we made plans to look at as many as we could get into on Friday night.
So before we got confirmation of the showings, I had already driven back to Embrun, and then headed back into Orleans after I got the call that we were starting at 5. We dropped Garett off again at Granny's and grabbed a quick bite from A&W to fuel up for the evening.
More crap. and lots of it. I have never seen so much wallpaper, weird coloured carpet, strange layouts, small houses, tiny yards that back onto highways or busy bus routes, poor locations, major gut jobs in my life. The only semi we were able to get into that evening was the one that I had listed as my favourite on the list. It was the biggest one, newest one, and best location I could find. If I was going to move into a semi, it was darn well going to be on MY terms.
As soon as we walked into this place it was like a breath of fresh air. It wasn't closed up and choppy. The entry way didn't have us tripping over each other. The house was obviously newer and smelled like our house. It smelled and looked like a home for us. As we walked around we both said "I could live here" "I could see us living here" or "Garett is going to love this".
We looked at a end unit town house after that, that was so messy and dirty that it pretty much solidified our love of the other place.
There were two more on the list (one I wanted to see, and one tyler wanted to see). So we told our agent. The one tyler wanted to see was out of the question because it had a possession date of August. And the other I wanted to see, she was able to get us a block on Saturday with another agent to go through. However, on the way home, we took a drive by that place, saw that it was in the middle of all of those huge hydro fields and quickly called her to say cancel the showing, we just want to write up an offer on the other place. We are in love.
So, after lots and lots and LOTS of back and forth with the other side, we finally reached an agreement, and all parties signed the offer. I was the last to sign off shortly before midnight.
We slept well that night.
Saturday I had things to do and I felt I could finally catch up on some stuff and not worry about spending all my free time looking at houses! So I messaged Shannon on Facebook asking her to lunch, since I had to go into Orleans for groceries.
We met up for 11:30 at East Sides, and it was nice to catch up and have some "me" time and not worry about how much a certain 3 year old is eating.
I headed out to the store after and did some light grocery shopping. I intended on making it my big trip, but I started feeling really hot and sick, so I made a quick kill. I was home from lunch and shopping within three hours.
Garett was still napping, and so was Ty when I walked in, so I curled up in bed with my ipad and browsed pinterest (my rediscovered love).
We ordered Chinese food for dinner and vegged out all night!
Sunday we knew there was an open house on our recent purchase because it was too late for the agent to cancel. So we invited our parents out to see.
We loaded up the car after Garett woke from his nap and headed to check it out. Garett had a lot of fun playing there with his Pa lol. I wasn't sure we would ever get him out of there. Think it's safe to say he's ready to move in.
We stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner at Swiss Chalet, and then went back to our place. We said our goodbyes and hung out cleaning and playing. Tyler had purchased a steering wheel for his new big rig video game, so him and Garett played for probably an hour with that lol.
Today was G-man's first day at the new daycare location. I'm sure he will just be filled with stories when I pick him up today. He was pretty excited to see her new house!
Tomorrow I have a half day because I have to pop in for bloodwork at 8 and then my next obgyn appointment at 9.
Thursday we have the inspection on our new place at 9 am, and a meeting with a new daycare in the evening.
Busy week ahead! Lots of stress will be wiped off my plate this week with the conditions on our house being waived, waiving all of our conditions and finding a daycare for G! Also, I get my referral form for the gender identification ultrasound, which I can go to as early as March 7, but will probably wait an additional week just to be safe :) I want to be sure I get a 100% on that little peanut so I can plan accordingly to decorate once we move! :)
38 days until we move (if everything goes well!)
Woot!
