life lately recap

Get ready. This is a long winded post, but I need to just hammer it out to get caught up!
Thursday June 28 was Garett's LAST day of Junior Kindergarten. So I had to snap a picture similar to his first day. What a difference. My boy has grown a little bit, I think Lol!

At the end of the day, I was picking both kids up (usually Tyler does pick ups, but he had a corporate gig, so we were on our own). I rushed around after work to get the kids, and pulled into my driveway, pushed the garage button a couple of times until I realized the power was out. In 48 degree heat. The hook was on the front door, so we were also locked out. So I quickly called Shannon and arranged for us all to just meet up at Boston Pizza for dinner. Everyone in Orleans whose power was out had the same idea, I think. We waited about 15 mins and finally got seated. I barely remember the meal, I was too busy stressing about having to leave after (we were coming close to keira's bedtime) to buy soothers, bottles, formula, diapers, wipes, etc. I was trying to formulate a plan in my mind since the hydro website said 11PM restoration.

Luckily we got home around 7:10 PM and our street was restored, but the surrounding neighbourhood was not. We were lucky! So in to bed we went!

I didn't do an update on teacher gifts, and I don't even have pictures :( But for the teachers, we got a teacher angel figurine, and a Pandora bracelet with teacher charms (an apple, a ruler, and a heart on each). ECE's each got $50 LCBO gift cards and a personalized wine glass. I had a bunch of these nut-free sugar cookies delivered on the 27th and did up a little basket for them to share. Handed out Tim's cards to the secretary, custodians and principal.

Friday June 29, I was off with Garett. We started by dropping Keira off at daycare, and went to Broadway for breakfast--we always share a breakfast poutine because they're so huge. (I am not a fan, but Tyler got him hooked on them).

Afterwards, we went home to apply some sunscreen, grab some toys and head back out.
We went to the park and played on the teeter totter, swings, this digger, play structures and with sand.

(This is our "house" he said--flowers are the walls, sand is the floor, and he was making beds--pillows were stones, and leaves were blankets).

Afterwards, we went and grabbed a snack at home. Tyler was home, so we all packed up and headed to my mother in laws house for a visit. Garett and I swam for two hours, and then Keira came in after Tyler went to pick her up. Garett also made a new little friend. Granny is very good to the neighbourhood chipmunks, and they sit right on her to eat. Garett was still enough that it sat on his lap to eat out of the cup. He was in awe.

Saturday June 30 rolled around, and Tyler took Garett to his soundcheck in Barrhaven for a few hours. When they came home, Garett and I went to the dollar store and to Metro to pick up a few things to make subs and salads for a cool dinner on a HOT day.

It was too hot to play outside, so we played inside with playdough and paint, and they splashed around in the big tub for quite a while before they cuddled up for a movie and snack.

On Canada Day, Garett went with Tyler to our friends Rod and Sharon's house to swim and play inside a bit, and were gone a lot of the afternoon/evening. It was too hot out again, so keira and I played inside and she napped for 4.5 hours. I made an easy dinner for us, and that was it!

From July 3-6 I was off with Keira, as daycare is closed (until the end of this week). So we took Garett to his summer camp in the morning each day (he LOVES it), and Keira and I would go for breakfast, go shopping, go play elsewhere. She's a good little companion :) This week, I am back at work, but she is with her great aunt Val and great Aunt Donna! Which is who she also hung out with over the weekend while Tyler and I went to Tremblant.

Friday evening, we picked up Garett and my mother in law came by to pick him up, and Val came over to get Keira. We headed out around 3:30.

By 5:00, I had a drink (the sangria below) in my hand, and we were sitting at La Diable in the pedestrian village, after checking into the hotel. The food was amazing. It set a strong precedent for the rest of the weekend. I had a steak with tarragon butter, salad with their house dressing, and fries (they tasted like chip truck fries). Tyler had the butter chicken dish, which was a monstrous serving over rice. He ate half of it lol.

After dinner, we shared a pint of their raspberry ale brew, and then each had a Spanish coffee.

We walked around a lot, and waited for Rod and Josh to arrive. In that time, we found the pseudo Blues Brothers, so Tyler took a picture. We went to the top of the hill and walked down, shopping and found them driving around talking over the huge speaker on top of the car lol

It had been a long day for us, but we stayed out to watch a few shows on the main stage. It went down to 10 degrees, so we went to Fat Mardis, where Rod knows the owner. The man bought us a few rounds of drinks, and we went back to Rod's room to jam for a while. We went to bed around 2am.

We were up and at em on Saturday morning around 8:30, and got ready to head into St. Jovite for some breakfast. We ate at Crêperie Catherine. It was a pretty fancy place, very instagram worthy, but I only got one accidental picture lol. I had a crepe with ham and lump crab with beschamel on top. It was so yummy. Tyler had one with spinach, smoked oysters and swiss cheese. The other two had simpler breakfasts. Tyler did say that the cappuccinos were one of the best hes ever had (they both had two of them ), and you can see them in the picture below lol.

We stopped in at metro on the way back to pick up some snacks (Tyler picked all chips, etc and I grabbed some grapes and cucumber and oranges, which came in handy when we had the boys to our room and we were all sick of chips lol).

We walked around more, looking at all of the new attractions they have in the village, and finally settled on a good spot on the patio at the Samuri Pub to watch Rod play on the mainstage at 1:30. We shared a pitcher of white sangria--it was the best I've ever had.

We looked at the menu and left shortly after the gig to get ready for dinner. We were going back to the Samuri Pub because they had SO much sushi.

Tyler and Josh tried a Sake Bomb (I wasn't brave enough--bad experience with Sake lol).

Essentially, it's just a bit of beer in a glass, and a shot of Sake sitting on top-resting on two chop sticks. The waitress yells "SAKE" and you yell "BOMB" and this happens twice--on the third time, when you yell "BOMB", you bang the table and the shots fall in and you drink it. They liked it.

We ordered some of almost everything on the menu--two different combos, also an order of pork gyoza (dumplings), and two orders of tempura shrimp. I also ordered a couple other random rolls that sounded good. It was all so fresh and so freaking delicious.

We watched two performances from our spot at dinner, and then headed back to our room to watch another that was at the stage outside of our window.

Tyler and I were so tired from the night before, that Rod and Josh left to go out for the evening, but we stayed behind, ate some ruffles and ranch dip and watched part of a movie on TV and went to bed slightly before midnight.

We were up at 7am on Sunday morning, finished packing, got dressed, started the dishwasher in the room and checked out. We stopped for a bite to eat on the way out of Tremblant, and drove to Peggys to get Garett, and Val's to grab Keira. We were home before long and got a bunch of kisses and cuddles in. Garett made us some pizzas for dinner. Put the sauce on the dough himself, then meticulously sprinkled cheese and placed pepperoni and olives (and onions on mine and Ty's). He was pretty proud he "cooked" us dinner.

The kids played in the bath with their new bubble guns and fishing set and were in bed shortly after. They were absolutely pooped from a long weekend of undivided attention and play with their relatives LOL.

Back at it today!

Hope you all had a nice week while I was MIA :)
