So long, July!

Image
What a crazy month this has been! August will be even more packed with adventures and memories though, so bring it on! With all the reorganization I am/ have been doing in the house, all the extra appliances are being moved. It was shocking seeing them all out! I am obviously keeping the normal stuff (stand mixer, toaster, can opener, coffee machines, etc) upstairs, but the rest will get put on shelves and such in the basement so I can just grab them when I need them. It is amazing the things you accumulate ! Seen here: food processor, deep fryer, toaster oven, chocolate fountain, mini cupcake maker, blender, stone grill, crock pot (don't use this much in the summer but will get moved back up in the cool weather), and I still have THREE fondue things to add to this when I can get up in that cupboard they are in! Insanity. But I already feel less suffocated with stuff, which is good!! Garett woke up from a nap yesterday, so I put him in the bouncer while I did some banking online. H...

Weeks are flying by

Honestly, I can't even keep track of time anymore. It feels like every other day is a Friday--time is going so fast lately. I hope everyone that is working right now feels the same! We have been busy with the house lately --trying to get it to work a bit better for us before we sell. I am not really wanting to move while I am on maternity leave, just because it is crazy to me to think of moving (and all the stuff that comes with it--packing, unpacking, renos, etc) with a baby less than a year old. But this house just isn't working for us anymore either--so something must be done! We are changing our dining table to one that seats more people and is lower--the pub style was great before the baby and when we didn't really have people over for meals, but now if we have more than 2 people over to eat, there is not enough table room, and once Garett starts crawling more (he's already pulling him self up somewhat onto things now), the high table will be a crazy hazard. Haven...

Weekend recap!

Image
Another great weekend :) Thursday I went out and did a few groceries after my parents visit and picked up what I needed for Garett's first meals :) (Pear first, then banana, avocado, etc). We were late giving him his meal (it was like 8) but we setup the video camera and captured it. Pear purée first. He thought it was sour I think but didn't turn it away. At least we managed to get more in his belly then on it. We learned our lesson this first night--never doing this again without a bib... Pic doesn't do it justice but he was quite sticky by the end lol Mealtime brought to us all by the amazing baby bullet system and baby bullet steamer! Friday Ty was home fairly early and we just hung out doing work around the house, outside and in the garage, had dinner and we were in bed pretty early! Saturday I had a therapeutic massage with an RMT because of the back and neck pain I have been having. He could not believe the state I was in. He said my neck was like a rock (carry all m...

Fears

As I was laying in bed last night, scared to open my eyes (for reasons you will see later), I thought it would be a good idea to share the things I am most afraid of-- maybe acknowledging them will help me in some way lol 1) Nighttime. Yes this is a very broad topic, so let me break it down and share night time rules..      A) If all of my extremities are not covered by a blanket (no matter how hot it is), something will grab me.      B) if any of these extremities are hanging over the edge of the bed at any point of the night, something will grab me. If by chance I wake up and one is hanging over the side, and with some luck nothing grabbed me yet, I must pull in said extremity as quickly as possible.      C) once the lights go out, I can only look up at the ceiling. Looking to the side may result in seeing a ghost--or worse--a ghost child beside my bed.       D) walking into a dark empty house--there is an axe murderer hiding...

6 Months...*

Image
Today is a big milestone for my boy. 6 months old. In an hour and a half it will be 6 months to the minute of my baby's first breath in this world. And let me tell you, it is not only him developing as a person, but I am too. I learn something new everyday, even though he can't talk yet. I learn what makes him laugh, squirm, cry, smile, make certain noises. He has favourite books, favourite shows, favourite toys, etc. It is just crazy how different your days and priorities are when you're a mommy, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I was never one to fuss over other people's babies, never was a huge fan of infants, and enjoyed passing them back to the parents when they got grouchy. I never pictured myself with a big family, and often I even questioned whether I wanted babies. Luckily the day we decided to start trying was the day we conceived, and I never looked back! Now, i can't imagine life without my G man. I can't imagine a life without at least one ...

No news is good news...

Well, there is a reason I didn't make a post yesterday. Reason being: I don't think anyone gives two hoots (yes, hoots) about my domestic life. I cleaned and did laundry--exciting, right? If you think it is exciting, you may in fact need your head examined.  Ty came home at a decent hour with some sandwiches from a place near greenbank and it was pretty spectacular-aside from my babies smiles, this was sadly the highlight of my day LOL. Today is the first day Garett is in size 3 diapers. What a little man! He could still get away with size 2s for a few more pounds probably, but I like the extra room he has to move and do his "business" in the bigger ones lol.  We are getting another fridge for the garage for extra storage :) pretty excited about this lol...I hate when we host things and there just isn't enough room for drinks and food between our fridge and the beer fridge in the basement !  I have to go to the grocery store still (badly) and also order the trays ...

Busy weekends for the rest of our lives...

Image
Well, this weekend was no different from the rest: busy as usual. Friday my friend Shannon came over to keep me company, and I'm glad she did since the day was spent in terror of tornado watches! I was happy not to be alone, that's for sure!! Ty came home earlier than normal (phew) and we ordered in some dinner. Soon after, Shannon's husband and his brother (Ty's cousins ) headed out to spend the night as well. We watched some stuff on the TV, hung out, had a few drinks and headed to bed (not quite as early as I was hoping, but still around midnight). It was a nice night:) The boys had an early tee time and Shannon had an oil change to get to, so my boy and I were alone as of around 8:30 on saturday morning. So I tried to clean up a bit, did a few dishes, got his Ieper bag packed, dressed him, got myself ready and even got his new storage shelf for his toys together:)  I also used that opportunity to order the drink dispensers for cousins night :) purchased from :party ...

Vaccination Day

I think I put it off long enough. Today we took Garett in for his 4 month vaccines (at 5.5 months lol) and a checkup.  He is such a good sport, except when he sees the nurse that does the needles. He hates her. I thought the needles actually hurt him, and they probably did, but he only cried when he saw her touch him and jab him. As soon as she left the room he was laughing and playing. Hmmm haha We have a perfect and sweet little boy on our hands here !  He weighs 15 pounds 10 ounces ( 25th percentile --nice and fit !) He is 27.5 inches long (90th percentile -- a tall boy!) His head is 17 1/4 inches around (50th percentile-- perfect sized head to house his big beautiful brain !) He is advancing quickly for his age she said. Starting pablum and puréed foods in 9 days :) in hindsight, I am glad we waited to start other foods--lowers the risk of illnesses and allergies and formula/breast milk is the only real nourishment a baby needs for 6 months. I am starting to feel bad for h...

Weekend recap *

Image
This weekend was everything summer should be about. I had so much fun with my man that it should have been illegal lol. Friday we were up pretty early and Ty was off to work for the morning while I packed us and the baby up. My parents picked G Man up in the afternoon and we left home pretty much immediately after! We were off to Merrickville for a short gig Ty had that night. Since we decided to go earlier, we got to check in and get comfy and see some sights.  The second you get to this small town, you just know all eyes are on you...the locals have zero problem staring right at you, but they are very friendly if you have any questions, people are more than willing to help you out. Example, you ask? Well as soon as we got there, we were pretty lost as to how to get up to our room since its a stairway entrance. We saw a bride, her father and all her bridesmaids and they promptly asked us if we were looking for the rooms and pointed us up the stairs beside them. The father of the b...

Busy, busy, busy

Today is my chance to catch up on cleaning before the weekend. Can I just say Garett is not to be left alone or 2 seconds? This makes it very hard to get things done. Thank god for the baby bjorn carrier he gets lugged around in!  I think the bouncer is something to put away now since when he's locked in, he leans as far forward as he can. He sees this as a challenge and not so much a relaxation seat lol He creeps around everywhere on the blanket he has on the floor. If you turn around for 2 seconds, he's on the hardwood. If he's in the exersaucer or jolly jumper he's the happiest kid in the world until I step out of the room for .2 seconds then immediately is mad. If he's not hungry, he hates being on his back, if he's tired he fights his naps to see what is happening around him. If he's on his belly, he's up on all 4s swaying and you have to make sure he doesn't face plant. Time to start baby proofing because he's at that point where anyway now...

Hump day

What a lazy feeling day--looking smoggy and overcast. It makes me want to grab my little guy, blankets, pillows and movies and hibernate and do nothing! But since there is always something to do, no can do!  Good thing I didn't get around to buying our tickets for our date yesterday because planned changed dramatically when Ty got home yesterday. Over our dinner of marinated pork loin, roasted potatoes and button mushrooms sautéed in a red wine and garlic reduction (toot, toot), we discussed our weekend plans. Ty has a 2 set gig in Merrickville on Friday night and I wasn't keen on bringing Garett so I was just going to stay home, but I hate when he drives home 10 at night alone, let alone from somewhere so far away, so we came up with a new plan :) Garett will stay with Grandma and Grandpa on Friday night while we get a nice suite at the old Victorian style hotel Merrikville has (Baldachin Inn-- which also happens to be in the same building as the gig--and Harry McLean's pub...

BBQ season in full effect

There are not words to describe my deep love for BBQ cookin'. Yesterday was a pretty early day for Ty, and he brought one of his employees home to help him around the yard, clean out the trailers, etc, so I put some new jerk spice rub on some chicken breasts (amazing stuff--like a spicier version of Swiss chalet chicken mmm), did up some green beans and some BBQ'd taters in foil. Yum! Summer cooking is so easy! I don't particularly love when my house smells like food (I'm aware this may make me a weirdo) but I would rather it smell like a fresh scent (also aware it usually smells like baby now lol). It's great when you're cooking it for it to smell up the house, but I hate nothing more then walking into someone's house (especially my own ) and it smells like a random stale scent of dinners past. Yuck. So long story short, summer is perfect for me with the BBQ being outside! Haha Garett and I hung outside for a bit yesterday , so neighbours came over to check...

Weekend recap !

Image
Turns out this weekend was much more lowkey then I thought it would be thanks to Garett lol Friday night, we got the monkey put to bed and just as I got my water and cuddled into bed and we got the Apple TV hooked up in our room, I heard some tossing and turning through the monitor. Two seconds later, all hell broke loose in our quiet home. I have never heard Garett scream and cry like this so I was extremely worried. We know he's getting ready to cut his two bottom teeth, so we knew it was that. He spit out his cool teethers, his wooden teethers, his rubber teethers, turned down a bottle, didn't want to be rocked, walked, on his belly, on his back, on his feet. Just nothing. I hate the idea of medicine but we gave him some baby Tylenol to curb an pain. 10 mins later he calmed down, sucked back a bottle and slept for 10 hours. Poor guy :(  When he woke up on Saturday he sounded a bit stuffy too, so there went our day to Brockville before Ty's gig. I just wasn't willing ...

Friday July 5

I am going to spend this day relaxing, yup! Point form recap: -i went out yesterday to run a million errands and it was so hot my mascara was liquefying and making my top eyelashes stick to my bottom ones--yuck! - Some family popped in for a quick visit after I got home. -Tyler stayed home yesterday to catch up in administrative stuff for his business - I bought Garett a jolly jumper and he has a deep love for it already lol - there are so many events coming up I need to make lists-- yikes! - our bridesmaid dresses are in for Dolly's wedding. Can't wait to see it again:) - tomorrow we a heading to brockville early to spend some time doing what I want to do before the party.  - Sunday is the shower and I want all the prizes I bought for myself lol I may have to o back and buy some doubles:) -I think Garett has what I had. He seems pooped and woke up with a kind of stuffy nose...if he wakes up like that tomorrow, Ty will be going to his least favourite place on earth alone lol - ...

Thursday July 4, 2013

Yay :) I got 9 hours of sleep last night, finally! The sore throat and running nose let up just long enough for me to sleep. I got up around 3:30 for a minute just to poke my head in on Garett since I literally didn't even hear a sigh from him after I put him to bed at 9:30 and sometimes that makes me wake up worried.  Also yay because Tyler is home for the day today (or most of it since he will have to go in later to bring the guys the dump trailer), so I am going to make a quick stop in at Bonnie Toggs to see what they have there that is new and then I'm off to do groceries :) just waiting until about 9:30 to leave so i don't run into any commuter traffic on the way in! Last night was relaxing. Ty was home around 6 or so (much later then we were expecting) and I just wasn't feeling very well at all (sleep deprivation was catching up with me), so we ordered in Chinese food (do NOT call and order this when you're hungry--we got way too much. $80 later....lol). Dolly...

Just one little nap...

Image
Warning: the blog is rated C for lots of complaining. If you are having a good day, do not read on. For the last two days the sleep Gods have not been in my favour. I have a bit of a head cold and it is making it totally impossible to sleep. Also, I am usually asleep for all the rustles coming from Garett in the night, but being awake, I go in and check on every move he makes, and Tyler has been grinding his teeth extra loud. So...going on about 4 hours sleep in two days. Normally, I would function ok on that little, but with the baby in my care all day, it's a bit rougher. I am hoping he takes a nice long nap this afternoon, because that's all I want, just one little nap! Lol I am getting really fed up with my compensation advisor. Not only does she never respond to my emails, she also is always late entering my payment info so I get my pay on average 3 days late. Idiot. We need groceries badly. With the Bbqs I had to make sure there wasn't too much in the fridge so ...

Canada Day Weekend Recap

Image
I don't even know where to begin with the weekend events. Friday night, we were relaxing around the house with the babes, getting salads ready for the next day and we get a phone call from Rod. They had been on Facebook and saw my most recent pic of the little man and decided they wanted some God son time. So out to Embrun they came :) We stayed up fairly late chatting (Garett went to bed at 9:30 and we didn't hear a peep from him until the next morning). When we got up, I just finished tidying up a bit and setting up the Canada Day stuff (set the table, put up the banners in the backyard, wiped down the patio furniture, etc) and got our chocolate fountain up and running! My family came over that afternoon and we bbq'd but ate inside since the cushions were still a bit wet from the torrential downpour we got the day before. It was a wonderful afternoon with visiting and laughter :) I love when we can all get together like that! After they left, we cleaned up, a...
