Weekend recap *
This weekend was everything summer should be about. I had so much fun with my man that it should have been illegal lol.
Friday we were up pretty early and Ty was off to work for the morning while I packed us and the baby up. My parents picked G Man up in the afternoon and we left home pretty much immediately after! We were off to Merrickville for a short gig Ty had that night. Since we decided to go earlier, we got to check in and get comfy and see some sights.
The second you get to this small town, you just know all eyes are on you...the locals have zero problem staring right at you, but they are very friendly if you have any questions, people are more than willing to help you out. Example, you ask? Well as soon as we got there, we were pretty lost as to how to get up to our room since its a stairway entrance. We saw a bride, her father and all her bridesmaids and they promptly asked us if we were looking for the rooms and pointed us up the stairs beside them. The father of the bride helped me get my suitcase up the first chunk of steps (so cute) and we congratulated her and we were off to our room. Little did we know, she was just getting ready to walk down the "aisle" into the courtyard next door lol. We managed to watch it all unfold from the room lol our room looked right onto the courtyard and we got to watch her and her girls walk down the aisle :)
I am not used to hotels like this--which was in an old stone heritage home. All of the fixtures (toilet, shower, sink) were new but the rooms were more like you were sleeping over in someone's house. It was so weird and I was convinced it may be haunted but never had an issue (phew lol). It was so clean and cozy too, so it was all good :)
After we checked in, we decided to go grab a bite to eat. Our hotel was in the same building as the gig and the pub it was in, so we went down to the Harry McLeans pub and just ordered a combo plate to split. Boy can you tell we are used to city quantities of things because the combo plate was huge--we didn't even finish it ! We each got a nice cold beer and clinked our glasses to the beginning of our weekend :)
After we finished eating, we decided to take a walk around town. We found the lcbo and bought a bottle of wine to share, which we never even drank lol. While we were there, the cashier man helped us out by telling us the best breakfast joint, gave us a little map of the town, etc. SO friendly. We made our way towards the locks, sat and watched a few boats go through and crossed over them since Ty has never walked over those little wooden bridge gate things over locks in ottawa before (not quite sure how he lived here his whole life without doing that!). Then we saw this big building with a sign out front. Turns out it was the Blockhouse Museum.
So, inside we ventured. Now this place was creepy (being an old bunker and home to the original locksmith). It was FILLED with old objects that these people used in their everyday lives and pictures, etc. here is Tyler pushing the creepiest stroller I ever did see (well, fake pushing since you weren't allowed to touch anything lol)
After we left there, we walked around a bit more and went to get ready for the gig. It was a lot of fun since I hadn't see his band play yet. They were actually really good--it was loud because it was in such a small space. The gig was set up by a Merrickvillan for his son and wife and kids visiting from San Francisco; since from all the way down there he discovered them! So it was cute to see how excited they were (and it was his birthday). I got a little tired of seeing them swinging little kids around while they were drunk as skunks, but that's none of my business :) lol they ended around 11 there, so it was a nice early gig (started at 8:30 and had two breaks). I stole this pic off Facebook, so that's why I'm in it lol.
The next morning we headed over to the Mainstreet Bistro for some yummy breakfast and were on the road back to ottawa for our date day. For those that recall, our July date was supposed to be breakfast at Pipers (our fave pace in ottawa), the Canadian war museum and lunch at the green papaya. We had to scratch pipers off since we ate in Merrickville, but on with the date!
I had totally forgotten how large and in charge this museum was. We were there for hoursssss, stopped for a drink and kept going. We called it quits around 3:45 and made it to the Kandahar exhibit and decided our heads hurt from all the information, images, interactive displays and memorabilia. We turned around and left and will go back to see the rest ! This place is amazing! Highlight for Ty was getting to see Hitlers Parade limo. We probably stood there for 5 minutes alone.
After we left there, our feet were aching and we were starving, so we headed up Preston (little Italy) for some Thai food lol. We parked and got to the door of the Green Papaya restaurant to see the they close between 2:30-5:00. We were not about to wait for 5:00 to eat so we walked around and decided on Trattoria Caffe (fine Italian cuisine). You know what? I'm even happier we ate at and discovered this place because it was just O.M.G. Since it was a weird time of day, we had the place all to ourselves too so it was quiet and romantic :)
We ordered water an a coke each-- and they came in the old glass bottles, which I know is a simple thing but i thought it was cool LOL
We each ordered an app--I got the bruschetta and Tyler ordered the beef carpaccio which was insanely good. I regret to getting a pic of it to remember how delicious this food was. It was hard to decide on a main since they are all authentic old school Italian food ( the owners are so Italian you would swear you were in Italy when you walked into this place ).
Tyler got a seafood linguine dish with some of the best seafood we have possibly ever tasted (for reals). I ordered a pizza with basil, Fresh mozzarella, Italian sausage and mushrooms. This was like literally to die for. The crust was beyond anything I ever had from other places to claim to have Italian food! We were pretty full by then but decided to split a creme brûlée. It was so good, but so rich we could only have a few bites each.
We waddled back to the car and headed right to Cornwall from there to pick Garett. We were so tired we only stayed for like 10 minutes and headed home (also, lots of driving so we wanted to get home). Garett decided to stay up until 10:30 ( thanks buddy), but slept until 8, so he is forgiven lol
Today we opened up our August date since it's a short timeframe we can actually do it, and with cousins weekend we had to plan around it, so we booked our date, so stay tuned for that. This month Tyler opened this:
We are literally doing nothing today but napping, lounging, watching movies and eating tacos for supper :) hope everyone had a good weekend! Another busy one coming up for us!
