What I'm loving Wednesday!

Image
Another week that is passing slowly--but that always seems to be the case when we have so much going on through the weeks. It's just surviving from one thing to the next! 1) I'm loving this little girls obsession with Yogurt, and watching her feed it to herself is maybe the cutest thing EVER. 2) I'm loving that I started this book finally, and while it is not life changing information (mostly tools I already had in my arsenal), I do find it is a good reminder to really reassess the things that are important. Avoiding conversations I don't care about, people that don't bring happiness/use to my life=bye, and how to get it all done without looking like a jerk. I'm glad I didn't pay $20 for it, but I signed out the e-book on the library website and am reading it through their App :) 3) That Keira said "PEE PEE" to us the other day, so I took her and held her on the toilet, and she peed. So we went and bought her a potty yesterday, an...

Weekend Wrapup

Friday Daycare was closed, and there was a PD day at Garett's school. He woke up saying his ear was hurting a bit , so instead of sending him to this day program he goes to on PD day's, we both stayed home and kept him home as well. Since our Doctor is closed on Friday's, I didn't want G going into his birthday weekend with an ear infection, so I sent him to urgent care with Tyler. They said his ear was looking a bit red inside, so wrote a dose of amoxicillin. He is on a fairly high dosage though, and now he has a fever, so we booked an appointment at 12:20 today to see. I don't trust random doctors, and the fever could be a side effect of too much penicillin. So we held off on this morning's dose to see what our doctor has to say about it. Being a parent is so stressful sometimes! Anyways, Friday was pretty tame. I rearranged my entire main floor--switched the furniture from the living room to family room, and vice versa. Keira LOVED this. She was a pretty go...

A letter to Garett on his 5th birthday

Image
I may not be around tomorrow to blog, so I will hammer this out now while I ugly cry at my desk. **************** My dearest Garett, Today you are five. FIVE. I cannot remember what life was like before you were born, and never for another second in this life do I want to know. When you came into my world, you took up more space in my heart than I thought was physically/emotionally possible. You and your sister ARE my heart. So today, I want to celebrate you. To celebrate the amazing person you are turning into, and to quiet my fears/worry about what the future holds for just one day each year. You are such an independent, strong soul. Sometimes I have to stop myself, and take a step back and just recognize you are just four--now five. You have such an understanding on life, and have interests that most children your age do not have. I take pride in the fact that I work hard to always introduce you to new things. That you have a deeper understanding of certain things...

Mid-Week slump

Yesterday, we woke up and couldn't even see out our windows. ICE EVERYWHERE. Tyler had been out overnight from about 11:45PM-8:45 AM. He had pre-warned me of the chaos that was the roads, so I took his warnings and took a personal day from work. The buses were cancelled anyways (Garett doesn't ride the bus, and generally goes in rain or shine, but since I was worried about getting out of the house/cleaning off the inch of ice on the car and driveway, making it to daycare and his school safely, and THEN sitting in hours worth of traffic to get to work), I called it and just stayed in. Then the thaw happened. So around 10 AM everything was totally cleared away and melted. Oh well. I'll gladly take the day!! Once Tyler got home, he went to bed for a few hours. He woke up when I put Keira for her nap around 12:00. The kids and I had spent the morning having breakfast, colouring, doing "homework" pages, puzzles, reading stories, playing house and singing songs to...

Weekend Wrap-Up

Not a whole lot went down this weekend! Tyler had a quick gig on Thursday night at the RA center with Disco Inferno, so I wanted some time out of the house. Friday morning I decided that I wanted to do something that night. Since I was supposed to go to the Pembroke gig on Saturday night, but didn't end up going (and can't say I'm too sad I missed it from the sounds of it lol). So I texted Shannon pretty early in the day asking if she wanted to do something. Dinner/drinks, a VIP movie, ANYTHING. She said yes, so we extended the invite to a few other moms, but it was pretty last minute, so only her neighbour came along with us. We headed to Lansdowne to go to Jack Astors. They were supposed to have $3 bar rails, $1/oz wine, $12 pitchers after 8:30 and 1/2 price apps after 9. Well, once we went all the way there, they informed us that as of Tuesday, there were no more promotions like that. Luckily after 9, the bar rails (1 drink with 1 oz of generic brand spirits), were $5....

Thoughts for Thursday

-Garett had swimming last night, and he is doing SO well. I can hardly believe how far he has come in his ability. Diving down for objects at the bottom of the pool, swimming on his back with his arms by his side, swimming face down with no use of arms, and the front stroke. The boy is certainly loving swimming lessons. -Tyler made my hamburger recipe last night (using crushed up cool ranch doritos instead of breadcrumbs), and some other random seasoning. So the kids devoured those, and had baths and went to bed around 7 again. I took a hot bath and we lounged around talking and doing NOTHING until 11:30. Oops. We meant to go to bed earlier, but it was nice to just sit with nothing else going on and talk. -Tonight, Tyler has a gig with Disco Inferno from 8-10, but sound check is at 5:00 and I said to just stay out and get dinner and stuff in between instead of driving all over just to make it back for the worlds easiest bedtime routine. -Tomorrow night, I need to run out and do a...

Wicked Wednesday

That's what I call my Wednesdays because Wednesdays and Fridays are always the craziest at work, and Garett has swimming lessons on Wednesday nights, so it really eats up our evening and supper and baths and bedtime are always rushed! Last night after work, I went home to change and headed out to the west end with some girlfriends for dinner/catch up/venting session. We ate at Panera Bread, which is really really good, but they don't have wine or anything, which I was really hoping for a glass, but I just had a cookie instead for my indulgence LOL. We got talking, and we all agree that we are just feeling overwhelmed. Like everything is chaotic, and we are holding on for dear life on this ride of life. There is nothing better than having friends that tell you what you need to hear, and not what you want to hear. What I want to hear, obviously being "everything will be ok and things will get easier". What I needed to hear was "You create more work for yourself...

Tuesday Rambles

Image
I'm starting to feel overwhelmed with everything, as I often do this time of year. Coming off the post-Christmas high, followed by New Years events (which this year, was being SICK, ugh), and then the haze of birthdays-- Garett's party is always stressful for me, since I really just want to hunker down and hibernate for the rest of winter after Christmas , LOL. I feel like I am losing control, that there are too many lists and I can't keep anything straight in my head OR on paper--and when my precious lists stop making sense, I'm a goner. Anyways, that being said, yesterday was a nice day :) Keira had her usual great day at daycare, Tyler picked her up, so I got to go home and open all my packages that arrived (all my things I need for our trip still--my dresses and jewelry and hygiene stuff, etc). So I made my list of evening outfits to pack, and at least that part of my world is feeling squared away. We started dinner--we were making whistle dogs, salad, and I mad...

Weekend Recap

Image
Another insanely cold weekend down the pipes. While time seems to be standing still in the day-to-day scheme of things, overall, I would say these winter months are going by fairly quickly! Hallelujah. This weekend was pretty uneventful for us on the adult-front. Friday night was really uneventful. I left work a little bit early because of the freezing rain and impending flash freeze warning. So I went to the grocery store to stock up on some stuff, just in case the power decided to go out and not come back on for a while. It went out at tyler's store (and the civic hospital), so I was a bit worried. I also went and bought a toy for the birthday party we were going to on Saturday (and wrapping paper and cards for hers, Garett's and Tyler's birthdays also). I headed home after, unloaded the car and we ended up ordering in some Gabriel's Pizza and watched a movie as a family. It was early to bed for us all. Tyler got up around 1:15 and went into work for a few hours to...

Recap City

I feel like all I do is recaps, lol how boring. On Friday night, I quickly went home to change and took an Uber to The Standard on Elgin as a going away party for two girls that have left us. We had some cheap apps and beers and some drinks. I left around 11:30 and ubered home by midnight. Tyler woke with the kids and I woke maybe 10 minutes later. We made some breakfast, ran some errands and did a whole lot of nothing for the morning. Around 1:00, I got dressed and headed to the grocery store to pick up some stuff for dinners and lunches for the next few days. It was so cold, I couldn't handle doing a big trip and being outside for a second longer! Tyler had sound check for his gig that night at 3:00, so he took Garett to watch and listen, and had some poutine. They played at The British (a hotel in Gatineau) that night for a few hours. It was a really short gig--he only left around 8, after the kids were in bed, and was home around 12:45.  For dinner, I had ordered in ...

New Year, Same Outlook

I refuse to set any resolutions for the New Year. It's never been my strong suit. So instead, I will just keep on keepin' on! And for the most part, 2018 came in with a bang--as in, the flu worked its way through the house. On the upside, it probably stopped me from drinking an entire bottle of Prosecco (my favourite thing ever) by myself on NYE.  So there's a plus. I lost 2lb from not eating for 2 days. Another plus. lol Rewind 2 weeks... December 21: was Garett's Christmas Concert at school, so Tyler and I went there for 1:30 (I left work at noon, dropped my car off for maintenance at the dealership, and we went for lunch at Popeyes beforehand). We brought Garett home afterwards as a treat. December 22: was our short day at work. I brought Garett in (he was the only kid on my floor), and it was a really good time! We did a potluck at 11:30, and were given the go ahead to leave at noon. Garett was having too much fun and we stayed until 12:45. That evening, ...
