New Year, Same Outlook
I refuse to set any resolutions for the New Year. It's never been my strong suit. So instead, I will just keep on keepin' on!
And for the most part, 2018 came in with a bang--as in, the flu worked its way through the house.
On the upside, it probably stopped me from drinking an entire bottle of Prosecco (my favourite thing ever) by myself on NYE. So there's a plus. I lost 2lb from not eating for 2 days. Another plus. lol
Rewind 2 weeks...
December 21: was Garett's Christmas Concert at school, so Tyler and I went there for 1:30 (I left work at noon, dropped my car off for maintenance at the dealership, and we went for lunch at Popeyes beforehand). We brought Garett home afterwards as a treat.
December 22: was our short day at work. I brought Garett in (he was the only kid on my floor), and it was a really good time! We did a potluck at 11:30, and were given the go ahead to leave at noon. Garett was having too much fun and we stayed until 12:45.
That evening, we went over to our daycare providers house. She always hosts a big Christmas party with cupcakes and snacks for the kids, parents and siblings. Santa made an appearance and delivered all the kids and siblings a present, and we headed home for a quiet night.
December 23: We loaded up the kids and headed to Green's Creek with the toboggan and GT Snow Racer. It was a pretty nice day out, and the hill was almost empty. Garett got two runs in before getting sick of walking back up the massive hill, and Tyler took Keira down on a smaller portion of the hill, near the path. They had fun, but quickly became miserable when it was naptime, so we headed home for cuddles and relaxation. I went out to the stores for a few last minute things.
December 24: Up early to start cooking the turkey. It had Brined in the fridge for 2 days beforehand, so it was SOOO good. The in-laws came over and we did gifts, had a big dinner and dessert and then Tyler and G headed over to his Aunt Moe's for a bit after he put out his cookies, milk, said bye to Elfie and drew a picture.
While they were gone, I got Keira to bed, and brought up all of the gifts/wrapped the last few things I needed to wrap, and left them behind the island in the kitchen. When the boys got home around 9:30, I read G a story and we tucked him in. Once he was in bed, we went down and took turns sitting guard at the top of the stairs while we placed the gifts/filled stockings. We had a glass of wine and watched some Parenthood before turning in for the night.
December 25: The big day! The kids slept until about 7:30 and we headed down. Keira was more taken with the stuff Garett was opening , and cleaning up the wrapping paper than opening gifts. She opened one or two and Garett did the rest.
We spent the rest of the day taking EVERYTHING out of its packaging, breaking down boxes, and playing. We ate leftovers and relaxed watching movies. After the kids went to bed, I took a bath and we were asleep soon after.
December 26: We had Shan, Casey and Rylie over for dinner. I made a garlic chicken/potato dish in the crockpot, some lemon pepper seasoned veggies, a Caesar salad, some buns I made from the day before, and rice. Tyler picked up some danishes and eclairs for dessert. The kids played and we had some wine in my new wine glasses Tyler bought me for Christmas, and I made some homemade whipped cream and we brewed up some hot chocolate with baileys and whipped cream/ chocolate, sugar and cinnamon on top. They were pretty delicious. We set the kids up with the ipad and a movie in the basement on the futon mattress while we played "What do you Meme" and "Scattegories". It was a lot of fun--we haven't played games in a LONG time. Garett went to bed around 9:45/10:00 and the others left around 11:30. We went right to sleep.
December 27-29 daycare was closed, and school was out for Christmas Break, so we just hung out as a family and ran errands/ate out/got things organized for Garett's Birthday.
December 28: Headed to Cornwall for Christmas with my family. We hadn't been to Cornwall since Thanksgiving (I think), so it was nice to see everyone :)
Come New Year's Eve, we were supposed to have a potluck event for people with kids that didn't have any other plans, but Keira and Tyler and I had all rotated through the flu and I was getting it that day, so we cancelled. I spent the night on the bathroom floor.
We have been recuperating since then, and really just trying to get in as much rest as possible.
I got a lot of online shopping done, with lots of savings thanks to Boxing Day deals--a new wardrobe for Keira, Garett's birthday gifts and ordered his special cake (a replica of his bass. shhhh). I also got Garett signed up for his next level in swimming, and he starts basketball on the 13th.
Tyler has quite a few gigs coming up this month, which is fine, but it means I feel like I need some time away also. So tomorrow night, I am going out with coworkers at a pub on Elgin as a going away party for THREE people leaving my area.
Other than that, not much has been happening that's new and exciting in our lives! Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years Eve!
