Mexico!~
I am just falling back into a regular routine with domestic duties. It's not getting out of vacation mode that is the hardest, but instead not being waited on hand and foot. I was in a good groove of dinner making before I left and now we are just getting out of the toast rut lol.
But seriously--aside from missing our G man, we had a wicked time!! Cancun is wonderful--and it's just Americanized enough to be safer than other places in Mexico to hang out and visit town.
We were up bright and early on Saturday to be at the airport for 8AM for our 10AM flight. We upgraded our seats to be Westjet's version of first class (called "plus" seats) and were in the third row there and back. I was Leary that I was about to have a very long 4 hour flight on the way there because some crying pregnant broad put on a show to get a free upgrade and was plopped right next to me--2 seconds later she was playing angry birds...hmmm...she stopped crying anyways so I even almost napped that's how wonderful and smooth the flight there was!!
The airport there is, for a lack of a better word, a complete shit show. You get there, get yours bags and immediately are bombarded with a million people trying to sell you timeshares, taxi rides, excursions, you name it. It was a huge relief that we had planned ahead and had a private driver bring us to the resort so we didn't have to negotiate anything 5 seconds after we arrived to the country.
We were greeted with a cool facecloth, a cerveza and a quick 10 minute ride from the airport straight to the resort (none of this 1 hour commute going up the strip dropping everyone at farther resorts off).
Welcomed at the resort by a beautiful tiger lily, a glass of champagne and warm smiles.
For those that don't know, Sun Palace is an adults and couples only resort--this way we don't have to worry about feeling too guilty seeing kids running around or worrying about getting hit on by old men, etc. and it was everything the reviews said and more.
We had started out with a junior suite facing the ocean, but were aware we had $1500 in resort credits for booking, so we asked to use $350 of them to upgrade for the week. Well, there weren't any regular concierge rooms. But they came back and said they did have the presidential suite for us, if we wanted to share the room with my MIL, though she was worried (lol), he assured us it was completely separate rooms, entrances, balcony, jacuzzi, bathrooms, everything. It's like two hotel rooms separated with a lobby and a living room and dining room. We were convinced. It was about $505 credits each (in which you pay the 11% tax, which is part of the deal, so pretty sweet upgrade for $55 USD!).
After that, we just hung out for the rest of the first day. Had a few bahama mama drinks and piƱa coladas and walked around/ate! We were in bed pretty early after such a long day!
On Sunday, we used a few hours to look through excursions and plan our resort credits and whatnot. We planned on Monday for our couples massage (which was included in concierge level), Tuesday to go on the subsea adventure which is taking a boat out to this submarine, jump onto that, then get back on the boat and go to a diving platform to snorkel around the reef (2nd largest in the world aside from Australia--it goes all the way to Honduras!), we also went to market 28 to do some souvenier shopping thT night and to a restaurant called La Parrilla (WOW), Wednesday was Tyler's deep sea fishing and my spa day (refreshing facial, deluxe mani, deluxe pedi ), Thursday was our romantic dinner on the beach (also included with concierge), Friday was our day to walk to shore to look at the other beaches and such, and Saturday we headed home! Mix in a lot of day drinks, a few late nights dancing, meeting new friends, tanning on the beach/by the pool, swimming and taking soaks in the jacuzzi and face timing with our boy everyday.
I won't go into explicit detail about everything because I think no one cares other than myself lol. Anyways, it was a crazy whirlwind trip and we had a blast, and a perfect flight on the way home too! God bless Westjet, for real!!
Here's a few pics to sink your teeth into.
