Things I want to do in Punta Cana

You know what? I finally admitted to myself last night that I NEED this vacation. Without the guilt. I do feel bad for leaving Garett for a week, yes (I think any good parent doesn't WANT to leave their kid), but I know he is in good hands and will have a lot of fun building relationships further with family. I know he loves his time with them, so I will remove myself from that situation and try to worry less and not cry everyday.

I need the break: from work (which has been exceptionally stressful in the last two months), from the routine of everyday (cooking, cleaning, getting up early, going to bed later than I should), from commuting (two hours a day gets a lot of thinking done, but also eats up a lot of my patience), from the weather (seriously? Coldest capital city in the WORLD???? Horrible record to set), from the stresses of everyday life--and Tyler needs it BAD. The stress that running two businesses, having to take care of the stuff at home, spending time with me and G, trying to find time to do things he enjoys and taking care of his moms house while they are out of town? It's a lot for one person. We need it. And we deserve it!

So with that, I have started looking at things I want to take in while I am there--because I guarantee sleeping in and a pina colada or two will already be checked off the list. Lounging on the beach/by the pools being waited on hand and foot is only fun for a certain amount of time before you get bored (yes, it's possible) and usually sets in around day 3.

On our trips we like to go on one or two excursions. Tyler usually gets in with a group of guys to do something like fishing or golfing, and then we go out together or as a group and do some other stuff :) Here are the ones I found that I think look fun:

1) A half day dune buggy adventure!! Tyler would have to drive ours since they are stick shift and breaking a dune buggy/the engine is not on my to-do list! lol
  • Half-day stick-shift dune buggy adventure from Punta Cana
  • Drive the buggy on paved roads, beaches and across farmland and plantations
  • Enjoy an authentic Dominican coffee
  • Hotel pickup and drop off, snacks and drinks included

    2) Catamaran Cruise to Saona Island from Punta Cana
Enjoy a lovely scenic bus ride to the dock where you'll board the catamaran and begin your journey. Spend your 3 hours of leisure on the island lounging on the sand, playing beach games, exploring the island or receiving an introduction to Merengue dancing.
Your first stop on the catamaran cruise will be for a cocktail at the amazing 'Natural Pool' lagoon, famous for its abundance of starfish. Continue to Saona Island by speed boat for a barbeque lunch served buffet-style under the shade of palm trees. The rest of the day is up to you - spend a couple hours of leisure on Saona Island swimming, playing volleyball, Merengue dancing or simply relaxing with a drink in hand.

On the return sailing voyage you'll be entertained by the musical crew as you enjoy the unlimited open bar.

  • Full-day Dominican countryside adventure by 4x4 'safari truck'
  • Experience a piece of daily Dominican life at a local family home
  • Visit a sugarcane field and a sponsored school, and enjoy a horseback ride
  • Admire the unique Basilica of Higuey, an important architectural and religious site
  • Feast on a buffet lunch, and sample local dishes, fruit and fresh coffee
  • Learn how to roll the perfect cigar, and see how rum is made
  • Lunch, beverages and hotel pickup and drop-off from La Romana or Bayahibe included

I keep wanting to start packing, but need to go on a little trip to wal-mart to pick up some more stuff ( like shampoo and stuff to take and that I can pack up and not worry about needing it in the meantime). Only 22 more days!! Can't wait! I also need to load up my ipod, get some magazines together (remember that pile of like 5 or 6 cosmos I haven't had a chance to read yet?? Those are coming). I booked our pedicures yesterday, and we will get our nails done on the same day! It is starting to get close, and things are coming together. I think I haven't been this excited for a trip yet because it will be just at the tail end of winter. Cuba, we went in April so the horrible weather was a distant memory, and Mexico we went at the end of November, before the winter blues had even arrived. Guess that's why this one feels like it can't come soon enough!

Brace for a lack of blogging as I try and wrap my mind around my excitement lol

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!!
