My Vacation List

Tyler and I are a young couple--for now we like to use our time away wisely. We travel only when the weather is the pits back home, and when we need a break from the cold. In the future the island excursions will be once a year, and will include the children (if we have more). These will be our yearly family trip, and will take place during their March Breaks. We love these times away from Canada, we enjoy the beaches, the all-inclusives, the friendly island vibes. But we have other callings. We don't only want to travel to lush, exotic beaches and relax. We want to see the world. Stare in awe at its wonders, live history in real life, and feel connected with the things that make us human.

Here is my list of the first four vacations on my list:

1) Ireland
In Ireland, there are many things to take in--but in between the rolling hills and breezy fresh air, I would love to kiss the Blarney stone, visit the cliffs of Moher, experience the Gaelic Games first hand, cruise on the River Shannon, visit the Guiness Storehouse and have a freshly brewed Guiness, go on a Dublin pub crawl, and visit Newgrange (a prehistoric tomb)

2) Italy
Italy has always been my dream. I want to visit the Valley of the Temples, the olive groves/tranquil coves/vineyards of Cinque Terre, see the Colosseum and Leaning Tower of Pisa with my own eyes, visit ancient Pompeii and the Vatican, go on the Amalfi Coast to Capri boat excursion, witness the wonder of the original Last Supper painting, eat pizza in Naples, and take the Vaporetto (water bus) along the Canal Grande and kiss under a bridge.

3) France
I want to be a full on tourist in France. I want to visit the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Vimy Memorial, andthe Musee du Louvre. I want to drink my way through the Champagne Region, swim at the beaches of St. Tropez, eat Macarons at Laduree in Paris, and stop by to put a lock with our names on it on Lover's bridge (kiss and throw the key into the water).

4) Spain
The wonders of Spain. It seems like such a mysterious and romantic place to me. I want to go for true Tapas, visit the Alhambra Moorish Fortress, see a real life Flamenco show, party in Ibiza, visit the city of Seville, run with the bulls in Pamplona, and most importantly: Eat Paella in Valencia (followed by the traditional tomato fight).
