Spring has arrived

On our house at least. My husband and I are deep in spring cleaning mode. With one day left until company and one week left until work, I want this house spotless. The last thing I need to be thinking about, sitting at my desk is all the dust bunnies collecting under the couches, beds, etc.  I mean, I have better things to think about...like "what is Garett eating for lunch?" Loll So we've finished most of the basement. I just have eleventy billion loads more laundry to do and put away. But seriously, the tree and all inside Christmas stuff is put away, we got the basement rearranged, organized, put out our air hockey table finally, cleaned the carpet, cleaned the couch, vacuumed, dusted, cleaned all the shelves and made a riddance in the furnace room.  The bathroom is spotless too now. Except Tyler broke the corner rack thing in the shower, so off to Rona today for a new one! We finally got a lock on the pocket door too. Now cats and kids alike can't sneak in. We swe...

Christmas time recap

Well, it is over folks. Christmas 2013 down the hatch and New Years on the horizon! This year was so different for us. We had decided to change our routine a bit to fit better with Garett. We did my in laws Christmas on the 23rd, then headed home. We opened all Garett's gifts on Christmas Eve (from us) and had decided not to go to the annual Christmas Eve get together at Ty's aunts house, but after we finished the gifts, we had time to kill and Garett was still wide awake, so we headed in for a bit. It was nice to see everyone :)  Christmas morning we woke up and headed to my parents house for an early dinner and opened gifts before we stayed the night.  Boxing Day we were supposed to go to Ty's uncles but we were sick of driving and lugging Garett around and just wanted to stay home, so we just relaxed instead! It was such a nice Christmas. We got to see almost everyone and aren't too tired as a result, which is nice! The last few days we are on a cleaning spree. Makin...

Tis the Season

Well, that's it for our Christmases of being just us two...no more Christmas Eve family party until midnight and opening gifts after a few glasses of whatever at my in laws house and Christmas Day/night spent with my family. We are hanging up our Christmas party shoes for something MUCH more exciting and fun. We are bringing bak the magic of Christmas. The days of toys and Santa, and oh my word, I cannot wait!!!!! Today we are heading to my mother in laws place for Christmas, since tomorrow would be too late after the family party for our little guy, and he has to be in bed early so Santa can come! Christmas morning, after the gifts are opened, we are off to my parents place. Our Christmas will be low key and fabulous :) I made some chocolate gingerbread cookies the other day, since I know how much my parents love gingerbread.I literally hate making cookies that require the dough to be chilled overnight...who has that kind of patience??? Anyways, I hate gingerbread and even I think...

Things you may not know about pregnancy...

Why do all women that have gone through the trials of pregnancy/labour not warn you about certain things ? It's so much easier to smirk and say "good luck"... I mean aside from some morning sickness issues, the first 30 weeks were a cinch.  Then all hell breaks loose.  - Sleepless nights of feeling like a whale, with another whale inside of you pushing on every part of our teeny tiny bladder. No position is comfy--and when you are comfy, you worry about all the things you read about sleeping on your back not being good for the baby---AHH! - Nesting. We all know about it. You have the feeling of nesting for a lot of your pregnancy, but if you're talking about nesting, you have no idea what nesting really is until those last few days when you go into complete hibernation, empty ever cupboard, drawer, closet, shelf and clean until you think you may go into labour. -feedings, diapers , washing and sterilizing bottles and washing receiving blankets would take up every waki...

6 Day countdown

I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't waiiiit to wake up Christmas morning and finally let Garett rip open the gifts he's been trying to sneak open for the last week. But if his method of opening gifts doesn't change, we will certainly be here all day. He's going to need some mommy guidance on how to rip open large amounts of gifts. This year is a write off--everyone went way overboard on gifts for him, and that will not be happening in the future. No 1-whatever age year old needs 60 gifts to open at christmas, it's excessive and will ruin him.His 25 year old self will thank me :)  On a side note: Why the hell does everything that requires noise need to be done while G is napping? He's used to noise, but I mean seriously? Why? Garbage truck, recycling truck, oh, don't forget the snow plow. Tyler, who is a hippo in the kitchen trying to cook eggs (how did that dirty two pans, three dishes and two pieces of cutlery??? Lol *slight exaggeration*). Cats run...

Men...

You know what? A lot of the blogs I read are that of single ladies, which isn't so weird because let's face it: 1)I love to hear about dating disasters when it's not including me and 2)lots more women seem to be single these days.  We've all been there--dates from hell. And while I will refrain from sharing my horror stories since I know some of my readers consist of my family, trust me, I've been there. But here's some advice from a newly-ish wed in how to weed out the winners from the over abundance of losers. 1) Find a man that treats his mother well....do not confuse this with the dreaded momma's boy who MAY have just come up for air after 25 years of breast feeding. You do not want him to go from mommy to you right away--this man should not live at home still or he will expect you to be his "replacement" and hold his hand every step of the way. While it's nice to take care of your man, it's a super turn off for them to NEED you to take...

Resolutions

With Christmas approaching and NEw Years not far behind, the wheels in my brain have been turning.. You know what...every year I don't make resolutions because I can't think of anything to change that I would even stick with (why set yourself up for failure ?). I am a strong believer that you cannot make someone change until they are ready. With Garett here, I feel the need and desire to make some changes. Here are the things I want to see change coming into 2014: 1)a healthier lifestyle. Tyler and I have discussed, and while we eat homemade meals the majority of the time, they are not necessarily healthy. We have gotten the name of a wonderful nutritionist who offers daily or weekly guidance/advice/recipes, etc and will be visiting him in the new year (well, more like right after being gluttons at Christmas ). Garett deserves to have parents that are the healthiest they can be, so we can always be there and keeping up when he wants to play outside, or to see him graduate, get ...

So many things

There is so much on my mind/plate lately I don't know where to begin--I thought I had it all together before I went on vacation. Oops! Lol I have finished my Christmas shopping, but you know that feeling when you're not excited to give people what you bought? I'm not used to that feeling, because usually buying a thoughtful or sentimental gift is my strong suit....this year? Very random, very non-emotion provoking. Ughhh.oh well, it's done!  I ordered all of Garett's party supplies--we settled on Thomas since its his favourite. I may have gotten carried away, but that's what mommies are for :) I also sent the picture to our friend making his cake, so I'm pretty excited to see it--I also bought the outfit he will wear and his outfit for his cake smash photoshoot the weekend before. I am so relieved we decided on a very small gathering instead of including every single family member--our house isn't big enough, and ill be enough o an emotional wreck withou...

Bored

O, I know, I've been a terrible blogger lately--I promise it's because there's too much going on over here, so instead of trying to formulate thoughts since I'm so all over the place right now, Ill do a survey thing I saw online 1. When you wash your hands, do you use the cold or hot tap (faucet)? Hot 2. Which celebrity would you most like to take on a date? Channing Tatum 3. What is the biggest injury you’ve ever sustained and how did you do it? Child birth LOL.  4. What is the most unusual food you’ve ever eaten? Raw oyster, sushi, bone marrow, truffle salt --not really unusual stuff, just things I wouldn't probably eat on the daily. 5. What is the most unique animal you’ve ever touched? A turtle, tree frog, or lizard I guess. I don't make a habit if touching animals that aren't domesticated. 6. What’s the most expensive gift you’ve ever bought for someone? How much did it cost and who was it for? Not sure--something either for my parents or Ty though. 7...

Mexico!~

I am just falling back into a regular routine with domestic duties. It's not getting out of vacation mode that is the hardest, but instead not being waited on hand and foot. I was in a good groove of dinner making before I left and now we are just getting out of the toast rut lol. But seriously--aside from missing our G man, we had a wicked time!! Cancun is wonderful--and it's just Americanized enough to be safer than other places in Mexico to hang out and visit town. We were up bright and early on Saturday to be at the airport for 8AM for our 10AM flight. We upgraded our seats to be Westjet's version of first class (called "plus" seats) and were in the third row there and back. I was Leary that I was about to have a very long 4 hour flight on the way there because some crying pregnant broad put on a show to get a free upgrade and was plopped right next to me--2 seconds later she was playing angry birds...hmmm...she stopped crying anyways so I even almost napped t...

It's beginning to look a lot like ..l

Christma-co! Lol Point form since I can form a full thought today:  My house is such a mash up right now of wrapped and not yet wrapped Christmas gifts, beachwear and luggage!  My to do list before we leave us somehow not getting any smaller--probably because I always seem to put off the most time consuming tasks. I have like 12 loads of laundry to do and put away before we go (did 3 this morning so I feel good about that lol). I'm all packed and I just have last minute stuff to pack for Garett now --Tyler hasn't started, so I may take the bull by the horns and pack him since im more concerned about it at this point lol.  I am NOT looking forward to leaving Garett now that Ty has been in my ear saying he will forget us--even Though I know it's not true, I feel bad and don't want him to think we abandoned him since we will be gone when he wakes up on Saturday :'( Tomorrow my parents are coming for a sleep over--why is that ore exciting than my trip right now? Lol We ...

Hump Day!

No time to write a blog, we are working around the house today, but here are some of our fall family shots!

Monday Morning(ish)

What.a.NIGHT! Luck was running short in the Wood household last night. Someone's karma bit the wrong two people :( first off, Garett somehow caught a stomach bug causing him to have a fever if 101 on top of his congestion, and projectile vomiting on my bed (twice) (not to mention I changed the sheets in between too.). My poor boy :( he was smiles the whole time, which is probably why it took us an hour to figure out he was even sick! ...so out came the Otrivin sea water for babies nasal spray, tempra and water to stay hydrated. I was all set to cuddle with him in bed all night. But he had different plans. He wanted to go to his crib around 10:30. At 11 he woke up crying for his bottle, so we gave him some and he went back to sleep until almost 9 this morning. He seems 100% better other than the stuffy nose, but I'm getting rid of that pretty quickly I think :) In the midst of all of this, I was cooking our dinner. Here is what I made: Garlic Parmesan roasted potatoes A brown su...

Whoa, Sunday?!

Where the heck did this weekend go?!? Last night when Ty got home from band rehearsal, we were too tired to put up the tree. Instead we sat down and looked at our fall pictures on our 65" TV--that's a whole lot of us! Lol I will share the pics when I load them onto my laptop and email them to myself to put on my blog :) after that, we tuned in to some TV and relaxed a bit. Garett had skipped out on his evening nap, so I knew he was going to have a rough patch at the beginning of the night. What I didn't anticipate was his moaning and tossing and turning all night :( we were up three times to change his wet diaper, rock him and give him a bottle. He would be fine as I rocked him and fuss as soon as he wen down. This morning I noticed a somewhat plugged nose n my boy, so I gave him a baby salt water nasal spray and it seemed to help a bit. I cranked his humidifier and put one in our room too, so hopefully a bit of moisture in the air helps a bit and wiping is nose with boogi...

Saturday!!

Last night was relaxing. We accomplished nothing, but it was relaxing.  Ty had a meeting at the bank and to look at some store locations for his new business, and when he came home, I got to take a nice bath and went for a nap (but couldn't sleep , grr!!) and then we watched some TV and played and I started dinner. We weren't super hungry since I hate a very late brunch and Ty ate while he was out, so I made this: The only thing that was different was the bread. I used ciabatta buns instead because they hold up to the panini press better--it was an avocado spread,Colby jack cheese, homemade breaded chicken strips, and bacon --yep, yum. Not too light and not too heavy. Then we waited a bit and had the cheesecake I made for dessert.  We sat down and watched the first period of the game before Garett was beat, so Ty finished watching it and I went to bed early :)  Today Ty has rehearsal with his new band, and is picking up our DVD of family fall pics we had one, that I poste...
