TGI-Girls Dinner Day!

Image
This week has been crazy!! Trying to stuff 5 days of work into 4 days is a crazy thought, and errands don't run themselves either! I think I can actually feel the resentment my laundry feels towards me as it piles up...sorry clothes, I really do love you :( And my heart broke just a little when my favourite jeans weren't available to wear this morning. The struggle is real! Another glorious morning though! I woke up 5 minutes early, had time to straighten my hair, get ready and still made it out the door with 3 extra minutes, somehow! I had a smoothe ride in, and the jerk in my parking garage that always steals my spot wasn't there yet, so I got my favourite spot this morning :) I was feelin' good about it being Friday. Then I come face to face with the door that leads onto my floor. We need ID cards to get onto our floors at work, and as I swiped mine, and the beep went off, I tugged on the door. That little green light was staying red. What the heck?? Around the c...

Rainy Thursday

I had the best morning. I had a glorious nights sleep. I got ready in record time. I had a full tank of gas, so didn't need to stop on the way to work. I beat the traffic and got to work early. I caught up on HR and Budget work that I was about a week behind on because of other priorities. Then...oh, then...I was going to go downstairs for some chocolate milk, pushed the button to the elevator, and as the doors opened, *EE-EE-EE-EE-EE* goes the fire alarm, and the elevator doors slam shut in my face. Ok--to the stair well to go down 7 flights of stairs, no big deal. Oh...then we have to go across the street, you say? Yes. I was standing huddled under a tree in the pouring rain, with no coat or umbrella (since I wasn't expecting to go outside). 20 minutes later, I was looking like a drowned rat, and we got the signal to go back in. So this afternoon should be fun in soaked blouse and dress pants with really soggy high heels. I'm going to eat chicken fingers for l...

Old School Blogging : Link up!

Image
I am linking up today with a blog I just started following this week: Emmy Mom . (And being that this is my first time ever linking up, I'm not sure if I even did it right!! haha) Her blog is so much fun to read--pop on over and link up yourself :) This time it is all about favorites. FAVORITE: 1.  Sit down restaurant: Tyler and I eat out quite a bit. Mostly for the convenience--and mostly on weekends. So normal day-to-day restaurants don't excite me anymore. We love to get dressed up, go out for a nice 3 hour, 5-course meal, and not worry about scarfing our food down because the little munchkin MIGHT get impatient (though he is usually pretty great *knock on wood*). So I have 3 favourites:   1: This is our go-to restaurant for nice dining (though we mostly love to try new places). It is a family-owned little Italian cafe called Trattoria Caffe Italia (on Preston in the heart of Little Italy). It is so dark and cozy in there at night, and the front window is d...

Recap

Image
Hi all, The weekend that past was a big giant ball of excitement in our house. It was the BIG day. The store had its grand opening. While it had been soft-launched at the end of September, no one had seen it fully finished, or sat their bottoms in the chairs in the back room to watch movies, play games, etc. I had no idea how beautiful that back room would turn out. I couldn't picture it. It had been 4 walls, crummy half broken tile floors with ceiling tiles falling out everywhere. I was not taken aback by its beauty when I first saw the store, let's put it that way:) As the paint went up, new flooring went in, ceiling tiles replaced, bathroom and drywall everywhere redone..it started shaping up. But with the addition of the projector, the furniture, the artwork and all the stock...it is beautiful. A place G will have birthday parties in the future, that's for sure!! Here are a few pictures from the day: Ottawa City Counsellor and Mayor posing by the front...

There's a little boy who stole my heart.

Image
There is nothing quite like the bond a mother and son have. It was something I never really fully understood until the first time that tiny little human reached up to me when he was sad. I grew this boy inside of me--I nourished his every need for 9 months. I went through the pain of birth, bringing this radiant soul into our world, and wouldn't take back a single agonizing second of it. I huddled over his vulnerable little body 24/7 for for first 3 months of his life, making sure he wasn't too hot, too cold, wet, hungry, tired, sad, lonely or bored. We went for car rides, we went on shopping trips where I would name the fruits and veggies, items on the shelves, etc in stupid voices without caring about the world around me. I watched that sparkle of curiosity in his eyes grow so bright, it has started to blind me. I held his tiny hands through his first cold, through his first bo-bo, and for his first steps. I snapped away with the camera for all of his toothless grins...

Fall is here!

While to me fall means cozy outfits, being able to straighten my hair without the fear of frizz, pumpkin everything, baking, comfort food, beautiful colours outside the window and hot chocolate under a blanket with a new book... To Garett it means no more sandals, no more running comfy and free in his little swimmers diapers outside, no more shorts and tshirts being the only barrier between him and the car seat strap. This brings complicated mornings to mommy and daddy, and more hectic errands--getting him bundled up, getting it all off in the store, and bundled up again. Making sure his mitts, socks, hat, etc aren't wet and cold for him to wear, etc,etc,etc...this weather is a headache. Move to the Islands with us, anyone? So naturally, I went on a shopping spree. I had already bought most of his fall stuff, but I wanted some more winter clothing...then I also went nuts on a new snow suit and snow boots, any and all kinds of mitts/gloves, hats, scarves/neck warmers, socks, fal...

Winding Up

Image
As normal people are starting to wind-down to enjoy a nice relaxing Thanksgiving long weekend, my little family is winding UP. This is a big weekend in our household this year. As many/most of you already know, my husband has opened a second business. This one has a retail location now that has been open since end of September, but was not yet completed inside. Well, they are putting finishing touches on it, and having the big grand opening this Saturday, October 11! We are so excited. They are already such a great success, I can't even imagine how wonderful they will do with advertising and more word of mouth! They also run an online shop, so everyone can visit them here and buy, buy, buy :) They have the most competitive prices on board games, comics, cards, etc The Kessel Run Because holiday seasons are the busiest time of year to open stores, this throws the wrench into our Thanksgiving plans this year. We will be post-poning with the families. But I will make a little tur...

Productivity at its best

Usually on Monday's I am dragging my butt, but yesterday was pretty productive! Since I got to work so early (I know--on a Monday, I'm a keener), I got to leave by 3pm. I beat any/all traffic and got to pick my kiddo up a little early :) He saw me and grabbed his two crafts he made and ran at me as fast as he could screaming MOMMA. Be still, my heart. When I see and hear that, it just makes my heart explode into a million hearts full of love for that boy.. We went right home, and laid on the couch witch me , while we took in an episode of Caillou. We played for a bit. I didn't cook supper. It was great. Garett then ate his supper, and we coloured a picture. Tyler got home, I ordered some dinner for pick up instead of delivery because I didn't want to wait 2 hours for them. Ty and G took a bath and when I got home they were in their PJ's waiting for me. Garett went up with Ty when he had to pee and went pee on his potty!!!! We were so thrilled...he did pe...

I've never been happier to see Friday

Image
This has really just been one of those weeks. I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing me complain about how fed up I am with this week. I'm tired. I'm cranky. I'm more whiney than the almost 2 year old that calls me mommy... Last night though was a good one. I was alone last night, and I was terrified--first night alone in a new, bigger house is a little off-putting. However, when push came to shove and it was time for bed, I didn't even hesitate. Maybe it's because this house isn't haunted (I stand by the opinion that my other house had ghosts). I left work around 2, and headed into Mr. Lube to get my oil changed and a flush of some sort.  So I was right on time picking G up (between waiting there and traffic, it was still 3:45 when I got there). We got home, he had his bottle laying down and then didn't nap (obviously). So he got up and we played and cleaned--emptied the dishwasher, emptied the dryer, made him his dinner, went for a walk to get the...

I'm Allowed..

I commented on Facebook last night about how tired I am. My energy level this week is way below normal, and it is all I can do to make it from the moment I open my eyes, until the moment my head hits the pillow each night. Apparently some people (well one in particular), thinks that because I "have it good" with my job, I should just be happy with that. That because my husband works insanely long hours, that he should be tired, and not me. Excuse me??? You're an idiot. I want to clear the air here. Yes I work for the Fed. Gov't. Yes, I get a good salary, yes I have wonderful benefits, yes I get a pension and yes my collective agreement says I only have to clock in for 7.5 hours a day. Fine, I have it good. Never once did I argue this. I know I am lucky. But apparently having it "good" makes me lazy and not a hard worker....wrong. I get to work shortly before 7 everyday, I often don't leave until 3:30 or 4 at the earliest. I carry a work blackberry arou...

It's October 1! Random Post

Random hump day. I woke up so stinking tired. Tyler got a text this morning at 5:30 and I couldn't stop coughing, so I woke up then instead of 6:00. (I don't have a cold or anything, but I have developed this dry cough...so annoying when I am trying to fall asleep! My hair is a mess, so I threw it up (and it's short enough that it looks ridiculous up, so I am hiding out in my office for sure). Also, the bags under my eyes appeared overnight. Usually I have some darkness under there these days, but I have these little bags right now. It's not pretty. It looks like I was up all night crying....and I wasn't...Quite the opposite. Smiling in bed while sleeping by 9pm haha It's just about time for a pedicure and facial for this momma. For those wondering, the paint colour for G's room is called "Centre Court" but the picture I found, won't let me save, so you will have to wait and see the finished product!...Everything is purchased, just waiting on...
