Snacks to curb cravings
I have been doing well on the craving front. I don't have many of them, and what I do, I can usually ignore. Yesterday there was cake and I said "Forget it!"..life is too short to not eat cake. There has been a lot of cake around lately, and with it being my favourite dessert, I was sick of saying no. I won't deprive myself, but I know I have to work a little extra harder this week because of it.
So I ate it. Then I felt guilty all the way home because I felt sick and it wasn't good enough to be worth feeling like that.
So, if you're wondering what snacks I turn to now when I feel like I want something different. Here are my favourites:
1) Plain rice cake with almond butter and cut up half a banana. Satisfies my sweet tooth, and I love the combination of textures!
2) Yogurt, granola and fresh fruit bowl. Filling and sweet tooth satisfying.
3) 62% dark Belgian chocolate. I break off one square of this when I am craving sweet really bad. it's good for your heart, and is so rich and densely chocolate that one square is enough to satiate the craving!
4) Veggies and dip (spinach is my favourite)
5) Whole wheat crackers and tuna (getting used to tuna without a lot of mayo is a HUGE change though!)
6) Thinly sliced apples, with peanut butter in the middle (will usually eat two of these "sandwiches: with about 1/2 teaspoon of pb a sandwich, and then eat the rest of the apple plain), rolled in crushed almonds.

There you have it--the staples of my snack collection. They are also easy--which is the worst part about snacking. You want something quick and easy, and unhealthy is generally easier. These snacks make it easy for me to throw things in a bowl and be unhungry in like 15 seconds!
Enjoy:)
