Weekend Recap: The gloomiest of all weekends

Nothing like being forced into a quiet/uneventful weekend because of cold, overcast, sometimes teeming rain weather. And now, because I slowed down for two seconds, I feel a cold taking hold on me. I woke up with the sorest sinuses in all the land.

Friday night, we relaxed. I smelled onion rings cooking on the way home, and set my mind on it. Tyler picked up chip truck on the way home for dinner, so we gorged on fries, rings, hot dogs, etc. We took off all the plug/light switch covers, moved all the furniture and started painting the kitchen/living room area. This is a large space, so we left two of the walls to finish in the morning.
G and I were in bed before 9, and Ty went and did some work in the basement and came up around 10:30.

Saturday we were up around 7:30 (overcast days make G-man sleep in a bit longer). It was pouring rain all day long. We had planned to go to Upper Canada Village Medieval Festival, but it was too cold and too rainy. Usually rain doesn't scare us away, but tack on the cooler than seasonal temps, and we just wanted to curl up inside. We made a quick breakfast at home, tidied up the house a little, I vacuumed area rugs and moved one under the dining table ,and one into the front living room, and we finished up painting the other two walls in the family room.

Once we finished those things, I grabbed a quick shower and we headed out to Jysk for some curtain rods, curtains for the family room (I already had the ones for the living room, they just weren't hung yet). We stopped in across the parking lot to eat lunch at Mandarin--quickly becoming our absolute favourite quick meal spot!

We headed home and spent an hour hanging curtains. Tyler carried up the glider from Garett's nursery that was in the family room, and we put my new stretchy cover on top so it matches the baby's room. And I am so happy with the fit/colour/material!! $60 is better than $500 for a new chair, that's for sure :)

I did multiple loads of laundry, played with Garett like crazy, and made some chicken souvlaki skewers, white rice and some peas and carrots for dinner. We went up to bed early, and G passed out on our bed at like 8:45 and we had to carry him to his bed!

Sunday we slept in until almost 8 (another overcast morning). Tyler had to go to two quick estimates and cut a slab real quick, so G had some fruit and cereal, played playdough while I put up all the art, outlet covers, and did all the dishes.

Tyler got home with some breakfast he picked up, so we ate that and the boys played in the basement for a while, so I swept/vacuumed down there, folded some laundry, swept and mopped the main floor, and emptied all the garbage cans.

We had soup for lunch and I made mention of being annoyed by how we read books and then leave them scattered through the house (in bathroom drawers, night stands, in our "catch all" bowls/baskets, etc). It drives me CRAZY because I just stick them in a box and never look at them again. In our original house, we had amazing built in bookshelves in the basement office, but haven't had a good place to put them since. So we went to the store and invested in some big bookshelves. I knew we should have bought three, but tyler didn't believe me when I said we literally have 10 moving boxes of books. He put the shelves together and G and I unloaded all the books. He has a little veterinarian toy set that came with a doctor cart, so he emptied the cart and was like a little librarian rolling it back and forth, loading books up and putting them on the shelf. SO cute.

We unpacked about 7 boxes, and the rest will need to wait. For another shelf. Or for us to go through our collection and weed out the books we don't really want to keep/didn't enjoy.

Garett selected a few little novels/novellas from my box I had for my children's lit class in university. A Winnie the Pooh novella, Silver Wing, Alice in Wonderland (which I put aside because I think it might be a bit too graphic for him), and also brought up Tom's Midnight Garden and Narnia. He would take the book and say "this goes to my room, mommy". So I offered up reading a chapter aloud each night to him instead of story books. He was excited. I explained these books are only words, no pictures, and the story would take a few nights to finish, so he will have to use his imagination to make pictures. He seemed excited again. So tonight we will begin.

Garett ate some food, and we ordered in The Works, using the skip the dishes website. Similar to Ubereats--but available in our area.

So we, against our better judgement and house rules, brought it up to bed and ate in bed. Garett made a HUGE mess of onion rings and I just had to completely change the bedding because there was no way we would have gotten all those crumbs out lol.

He was asleep by 9 again, and so we watched a few episodes of Scandal, and I took a shower. I shut off the last episode we tried to get through with a few minutes to spare--Tyler had fallen asleep and I was struggling to keep my eyes open.

I woke up around 3 with a crazy stuffy nose, so got up and blew my nose. Then I realized I had a scratchy throat and drank a bottle of water. It didn't help. And there's nothing I can take to help except Tylenol (which does nothing for me on a good day when I actually need it), so went back to bed and tried to fall back asleep. I got back around 4:30, and my alarm went off at 6:30. I slept in a bit, but it didn't help.

As soon as I got to work I sent an email saying I probably wouldn't be here the whole day. My Director is on a family trip to Germany this week anyways, so it's a good time for it to happen at least. Tomorrow I have my next OB appointment in the morning, so at least I get to legitimately sleep in. I feel bad for this to have taken hold when I only have a little under 3 weeks left of work, but when you slow down for one second, this is what happens! I also partially blame this weather!

How was everyone elses weekend!? Hopefully where you are was a little nicer weather wise :)
