Weekend recap {it's long}
This weekend was everything a summer weekend should be.
I apologize in advance for the length and amount of pictures I dumped here today.
I apologize in advance for the length and amount of pictures I dumped here today.
I was happy to be able to spend time as a family this weekend again, since it's so hard to rally us together to be productive AND have fun on weekends, and not worry about Ty's work.
Friday night Tyler got home early and took g over to his granny's to swim and play for a bit. This left me alone to get ready at a slower pace, which was nice ! I appreciate this more when I can enjoy a glass of wine as I get ready, but I blared my music and took my time nonetheless. Dinner with my girlfriends was at 7, so I headed across town around 6:30. We sat on the patio, and it was absolutely perfect! The meal was delicious, I drank a ton of water and the ride home was so nice ! G was in bed when I got home, obviously, so we read in bed for a bit (was around 10:30 by then) and then we passed out also.
Saturday g got me up bright and early at 6. He had a bite to eat in bed, we lounged a bit and then we cleaned. I did the dishes, cleaned the fridge, swept, mopped, took out some trash, switched over laundry , etc, Tyler emptied the vacuum, brought the laundry up and down and vacuumed upstairs/ the stairs.
Once we had a handle on the housework front, Tyler had to head to the store to move the projector, screen and couch to a new spot to make room for more gaming space. He went ahead and g and I followed, picking up some brunchy food and eating together at the store. G ran around chasing the co- owner Jeff for 20 minutes and we headed home to pack his outing bag and relax a bit.
Soon enough , Tyler was home. He grabbed a quick shower, and we were off. G fell asleep in the truck , but we headed to the fun fair closeby, and he was wide awake once we announced where we were!
First stop, right inside the gates, he saw a cement mixer truck. He got a lesson on how the back part works, and then got to sit in the cab, honk the horn, pull the air horn and pretend to steer. He was off to an excitable start! (Little did we know this moment would make the biggest impression. He talked about pulling that air horn ALL weekend).
Admission to the fair was free, but everything once you're inside costs money. I think I prefer this way than the ones out by where we used to live where you paid to get in, but then paid a little less for things around the fair. In the end it was about $20-$30 cheaper for us not having to do it the other way!.
Garett wanted to play some games first. So he did a hammer game. He hit the sledgehammer thing on the block and won an inflatable giant hammer. He liked that lol. And was only supposed to get three hits in, but since the guy running the booth had to go get change for Tyler, he snuck in about 10. I've never seen a kid wield a heavy rubber mallet thing so well haha
We didn't get very far beyond that, he decided he wanted to "fish ". He caught his three ducks and won a small monkey, which turned out to be the thing he was most proud of winning. Also a g approved carnival game.
We sat down and ate some fair fare (hot dogs) and the dumbo ride beside us caught G's eye. It went up and down at the child's control, and goes in a circle. He strongly declared "I want to ride that. Now." I was so reluctant to let him go on, but we watched it a few times to make sure we wouldn't say yes and then him panic when he got on there. Tyler took him in and buckled him up and explained the levers, to make sure he stays sitting and have fun. Then we dispersed. (He stayed on one side of the circle, and I on the other, just in case...not sure what we thought this accomplished, but it made us stress less lol). I really thought he would hate it, but he shocked the heck out of us and went up high to the top (ughhh my nerves! lol) and had a huge smile on for the ride. What a big boy! His first REAL fair ride all by himself :(
Needless to say he was on a bit of an adrenaline kick after that, but there wasn't many rides (especially none he could go on--or that we would allow him on), so he discovered a train ride he would like to go on. He sat so calmly and just took it in. Super cute. He looks pretty sad in this picture, but about midway through the ride, after he was comfortable with his surroundings, a big smile erupted.
We made our way to the little rays reptile zoo show. He pet a big turtle and met a big snake, though only daddy touched the snake lol Garett said he was "cool but GROSS" haha (I get anxiety just seeing how close tylers knee is to that disgusting tail).
Afterwards , made our way over to grab some candy apples , a slushie and a milkshake
When we left the fair, we met up with my SIL at a splash pad/park, where these cousins ran around like crazy for quite some time. Thank god her and Tyler were both there, because this pregnant momma cannottttt even try keeping up with this kid right now in a huge space lol
Once we packed up there, we stopped at the house to grab my swim suit and headed to my MIL's for a swim, visit and dinner. Ty popped in briefly to his friends bbq but only stayed about an hour. G had a blast with mommy, aunt dolly and Bryson in the pool, and playing outside bare bummed :) went home around 7:15.
We headed home, and g passed right out from a busy day. I read a bit, and we were in bed around 11!
Sunday morning was so rainy and depressing. We had plans to paint, but with the humidity level so high, it probably would have taken forever in between coats, so we called the day a write off around 8 am (as soon as we woke up hahaha--which PS I love overcast days because everyone sleeps in because of the dark sky).
So instead, G had a quick bite to eat in bed again (scrambled eggs for the win!) and we all got dressed and into our rain gear and headed out around 10 to the Orleans Centrum market that opened for the season that day. Apparently the first 50 people got a free grab bag, and we were some of the first, so they ran up to us and gave us each a bag. Didn't seem many people were willing to brave the rain for it lol..We don't mind the rain, really. And g has a blast when he can wear his rubber boots, splash pants, rain coat and new umbrella, so we took the chance lol. He had an amazing time splashing in every passing puddle haha. The market itself was under a roof in an open air mall kind of thing, so once we were shopping, it was dry. Garett kept opening his umbrella and showing every vendor he could find his Darth Vader umbrella!! haha Of course, he stole the show.

We picked up a few things, seen above-- some jalapeno and thai jelly's (YUM with cream cheese and crackers, and so fresh)--she also gave us some recipe ideas to use them with, and I can't wait to test them out. I'm really craving the heat during this pregnancy!
We grabbed some cherry tomatoes and green onions, and not pictured is a big tub of fresh pesto made out of garlic leaves, parm cheese, olive oil, roasted onion and some walnut apparently. Pretty excited to try it (maybe for dinner tonight). We stopped at a bakery booth and got a reeses pieces cookie for g, and a white chocolate and raspberry scone for each of us. We also took some essential oil Epsom salts home.
The grab bags pictured just had some water, a pen, a flashlight keychain, granola bar things, and a few other little things. But I liked the bags to put our stuff in while we shopped! Nice touch.
Afterwards, the closest two restaurants that we like for breakfast were jam packed (I thought people stayed in mostly when it was torrential pouring, but the lineups were out the doors!), so we headed to St. Laurent and went to Piper's Diner. I was obsessed with this place when I was pregnant for G, but boy did it ever go downhill since then! What type of breakfast joint doesn't have REAL maple syrup?? We had to remind the waitress about five times for items she forgot (G's fruit cup, Tyler's French toast, my drink, a coffee refill for Tyler and my maple syrup). We waited an eternity for our cheque, and she was close to getting no tip, but then she came over and squatted beside Garett and said something along the lines of how cute he is and she can't believe how well behaved she is and could she give him a treat. She came back with some flash card things for him, which made his morning, so she got her tip afterall lol.
We headed out from there to go to an aquarium store closeby. In the back of the store is a huge dark room with so many aquariums and type of fish and plants and reptiles and all that.
Garett was really taken with the artificial items tank at the front (Fake jelly fish, baby alligator, seahorse, etc in a tank that made me think of Avatar--I don't blame him. I stared at it for a while too! haha). We had to get to the back room because Tyler was starting to get too into pricing out massive tanks, and I did not want to leave this place with $4k worth of fish, tank, tank accessories, etc...it was a close call. (PS. Fish are NOT my thing lol).
Garett made fast friends with this lizard. We almost took him and his tank home too. Note to self. Never bring daddy into this store again. But it was pretty cute seeing the lizard scurry down to come face to face with g everytime he saw g walk by lol Maybe it was the coat he wore ;)
Looked at endless types of fish.
And snakes, and geckos, and turtles. And even was fascinated by the cases full of crickets and aquatic frogs.
We found one of the fish specialist people and asked what we could get him that could co-exist with his aggressive half moon male betta. We were confused because some of the tanks in there had other fish in with them. She said some can co-exist, but only if they're put in from brand new baby age. Ours is mostly fully grown, so probably not a good idea unless we want a d-e-a-d fish on our hands.
She suggested snail, and Garett was thrilled. He picked his snail, and she packaged it all up for him. He named him "Dave" (I do not know where this kid comes up with this stuff, but how cute is that lol). So Dave the snail how now joined Thomas the betta in the tank. He will also keep it cleaned in between his weekly tank cleanings! lol score.
We walked around a bit more and picked out some new more vibrant items for his tank also. He liked the orange plant, so we grabbed that, he picked out some new pink gravel and a nemo decoration.
Garett's new and improved tank, lol..we didn't put too much of the new gravel in, but I kind of like how the pink looks in there! That black/gold ball along the bottom is Dave getting comfortable with his new surroundings, lol.
We prepared a quick bite and sat down to watch the movie Spotlight (a true story exposee on the catholic church's abuse scandal in Boston from the 70's -2000's). I found it to be quite dry, but it was well executed for what it was. Garett passed out watching his cartoons, and slept for the last 1.5 hours of the movie, so we finished that up, and then woke him up and got him ready to head out again.
Tyler's cousin was in town from out west, and there was a few birthdays going on, so they packed the swiss chalet up with everyone, and we had dinner. Mine was normal, but Tyler ordered a different item (which he never does), and it was the worst thing ever, and the waitress of our table couldn't handle us all (each table had a waitress, and the other table received much better service lol). So Tyler walked out pretty much hungry, I think lol. Garett was so riled up in there, being so loud. I was sweating bullets at the end lol. But he had a nice chat with a few of his great aunts, and gave a few kisses away to them and granny and grandpa on the way out.
We got home around 7:30, and played downstairs for a bit. I took a video of it, but thought it was the funniest thing. He is into this spin in a circle once and he "turns into" other things. So he spun and became a crossing guard, and directed traffic (that's what he's doing below). "Pay attention cars, and go this way!". Then he would spin and be a "digger man"...a man that runs a digger tractor lol.tipped over stroller was his tractor lol. Pretty cute anyways.
I took an Epsom salt bath to rest my weary bones, and he relaxed with a cup of milk and was down for the count at 9.
We got halfway through an episode of Scandal and were falling asleep, so we shut that off as well around 9:30 and went to sleep.
Hope everyone had a fun weekend! I am a little sad the rain on sunday ruined the rest of our plans (it was firefighter day at the Cumberland heritage museum that we wanted to go to, but they weren't responding if it was a rain or shine event, so we didn't venture out!).
Happy Monday. :)
