My long weekend recap

This weekend was the semi-annual fishing derby that Tyler always attends. Originally he had too much work on his plate, and he didn't think he would be able to get out of town until Friday evening. He didn't like this idea, so he worked hard to pack in a bunch of work to a later Weds, and going in for a half day on Thursday. He got his fishing license at the last minute, stopped at the store for a few things, packed at home and headed out Thursday later in the day (around 3). So I immediately booked off Friday when I found out he was skipping town a bit early. I knew it would probably be a bit of a rough night for Garett, and wanted us to be able to sleep in a bit. As suspected, Garett really struggled with daddy gone. I usually handle bedtime, but he was really struggling with the idea of not getting to go to the fishing derby. there were ALOT of tears when I picked him up, and sporadically through the evening. Broke my heart :( He doesn't understand it's just not sa...

Front living room:done

Image
This room will continue to be a work in progress. Being at the front of the house, I don't really know what I want from it. Currently, all I need in this room to finish it is an area rug (which I am struggling to find one I like), and I might switch out a few other pieces on the shelves, and the bench area. Before (note the same yellow that covered every wall in the house lol). I also need to hang the curtain rod/curtains once they arrive. After: I picked a beachhouse blue/green colour for this room to brighten it up a bit. Pardon the dark pictures, I took them at dusk :( lol Virtually everything in this room, with the exception of a few items collected over time, came from Bed, Bath and Beyond This wall is attached to the entryway, so it's more of a grey/beige colour, and will be continued on up and down the stairwells and in the hallways :) I kind of love this little sitting zone, I always sit here when Tyler and I sit in this room! (excuse my case...

Master bedroom reveal : room done

Image
This room was a huge space that I hated. I didn't feel comfortable in here at all, and had trouble sleeping with this yellow on the walls. I found the yellow walls made the carpet look almost a rose colour, when it's really white-grey. Here are the before pictures: After: Picked a medium grey for this room (I don't have the colour names on hand) The curtains are black out/insulated grey sateen curtains by Steven and Chris from Home Outfitters Grey and white Damask basket on my dresser is from Winners "W" Marquee sign is from Bed, Bath and Beyond Bedding is from Bed, Bath and Beyond Throw blanket is from  Home Sense Dressers and nightstands are from Ikea Headboard is from Sears   Lamps are from Bouclair Home (though I want to change them out for larger white/glass lamps) Large Paris picture is from Ikea ceramic lizard on the dresser from Mexico "Dream" sign is from Bed, Bath and Beyond Two Paris framed photos are from Home...

You can read about the other completed rooms here: Garett's Bedroom Reveal Garett's Bathroom Reveal Another room I don't have the "before" pictures for, but can mark as "complete" is the Master Ensuite. The colours of the wall are a pewter colour (they look more blue in the pictures--sorry--blame the iphone photography!) I have been collecting the items for some time, and likely won't be in stock anymore, but for a breakdown, see below Grey Abstract wooden sculptures are from Bouclair Home Grey floating shelves are from Bed, Bath and Beyond Turquoise glass diffuser is also from Bed, Bath and Beyond The  hammered pewter skinny vase is from a boutique in Montreal The candle holder and pillar candle are from Winners Bowl on the counter is from Home Sense Scale is from Bed, Bath and Beyond The colour in this picture is WAY off. Things I want from this summer

With the exception of the obvious: not swelling up like a whale and sweating to death everyday, I have a few wants from this summer! -Nice flowy clothes wardrobe. I hate going to my closet in the hot months and realizing that everything is not breathable materials (chiffon, polyester blends, etc). I want to make a wardrobe of loose fitting cotton, linen, etc. - A nice tan. It's hard on really hot days, because I don't feel like sitting out when it's over 32 degrees--and it seems to hit this temp ALOT in the summer. Our backyard gets LOTS of sun in the new place though, so should be doable this year :) - To eat ice cream, milkshakes, popsicles, freezies whenever the heck I want. Bottomless. Garett enjoys a good popsicle, so we usually have a yummy variety in the house. I love the lime-y ones, and he doesn't, so we are a good tag-team on the popsicle boxes! -To do a lot of fun outdoor activities again. We had a very successful summer last year with fairs, markets,...

Hump Day Point Form

-It was exceptionally hard getting up this morning. I was almost 30 minutes late getting to work today. It's getting progressively harder to wake up and get ready in the morning and make it in on time. Good thing I live so close now, because I would be an hour late everyday if we still lived on the outskirts lol. -Last night I made a garlic chicken, pasta and veggie stirfry for dinner, and another dish of white rice with a kind of kung pao chicken and veggie stirfry mixture with a different sauce than the pasta dish. It was pretty good. The chicken and rice dish is a bit spicier than I intended it to be, so Garett probably won't like it much--it was intended to be dinner for tonight, but I'll have to make him something else. He's like his mommy, very sensitive to spicy. -Tyler and G-man assembled the crib, and I put all the bedding on, and put her change pad cover on. The shelves are adjustable in the hutch part, and we put the bottom one in too low--we can't us...

30 week pregnancy update

How far along? 30 weeks How big is the peanut? about 3lbs now, and is 15.7 inches long Total weight gain/loss? I go back to the doctors in a week. I feel like I've maybe gained another lb in the past week. Maternity clothes? in normal people capris today, and a maternity top. My clothes are still fitting, but tops are getting pretty short because of the belly lol Sleep? pretty good lately since Ty got me my new Snoogle Best moment this week? Being able to sit down and do nothing for extended periods of time? haha And also, the nursery furniture arriving and being assembled :) Symptoms? She is so active, that it makes me feel sick quite often. Lots of heartburn when I lay down. General discomfort setting in the hip region. Food cravings? nope, none Food aversions? Definitely none. Though sometimes if I am eating something, once I get full, the idea of putting one more bite in my mouth turns me right off. This happens a lot at breakfast. I catch myself spitting out bites of egg or ...

Long Weekend Recap

I took virtually no pictures this weekend aside from some painting progress pictures, and I won't share them because I'm not ready to do final room showings yet...so...here we are, standing face to face with a picture-less post, lol I had a great long weekend, in the sense that I personally didn't have much I needed to accomplish! lol Friday after work, Tyler got home at the same time as G and I. I had done quite a bit of cleaning on Thursday night, so we didn't have much to do to get ready for the bbq. It was supposed to be just Tyler's concrete guys, but typical Tyler fashion, a few others came by--which, thank god, because it would have been quite the boring night if I was just stuck inside alone with G lol. We bbq'd simple hamburgers and hot dogs, and bought a few pre-made salads, no big thing! The guys did their thing, and Shannon and I hung out inside with G-man and Rylie--I think it's safe to say they enjoy each others company haha Most people l...

Friday before a long weekend

My favourite time in the office. I don't know why people take these days off. It's pretty quiet in the office, and I am catching up on so much from my to-do list of things that always get pushed back and lowered on the priority list! I'm the only one in my area here today, other than my Director, who is also here. So enough work to keep me busy for the day, and time isn't passing very slowly (the rest of the week was so slow--today is moving along nicely :)). The traffic was pretty well non-existent this morning. I think I made it to work in like 12 minutes, door to parking garage! lol Now I am going to enjoy a lunch from downstairs, and not wait in line for it! lol I'm hoping Tyler cancels his staff meeting thing after work with the guys. I know he talked to them a bit yesterday at the shop after work, so it would be nice to not have them all over lol. I cleaned a bit last night, but I still don't like that many people over when my house is still not rea...

Thursday Thoughts

Things are getting more official with maternity leave approaching! Yesterday pay/benefits people sent me my maternity leave contract/letter and forms I need to get filled out and submitted. I filled in my 6 week top up form, my health insurance continuance form, my maternity/parental leave form, and called the Pension Center to set up my buy back payments for when I return. I went home and wrote out my 12 post-dated checks to continue with my upgraded health insurance while I'm off, and emailed the benefits folks back with a few questions about the two week waiting period and my ROE being sent to service Canada. I guess it's like riding a bike--all of this stuff seemed so complicated last time I went off--and while there were a number of hiccups through the year with my pays, it went pretty well, so I am less worried this time around. I picked Garett up from daycare yesterday--the theme this week is the food groups, and they were sorting "junk food" from "h...

Things I'm loving Wednesday

It's a sunny day, and I am in a sunny mood. Things I am loving today: 1) I actually enjoyed the little bit of a cool spell. It was getting quite hot (like 27 degrees in early May is not normal). I like the temperatures spring brings, and I like the cooler/fresh air in the house when I can open the windows. When it's too hot, it doesn't feel as "fresh" inside. Also, it made sleeping conditions real nice, since sometimes I wake up so hot, the open window with cool air was so nice! 2) Garett being such a big boy lately. He loves to go places and do things with us, and actively participates in conversations now. He cracks jokes that we think are actually funny, he helps with stuff around the house, and he plays independently and I don't have to worry so much--he knows not to climb or jump on things, he knows not to open windows or doors when he's alone, he knows not to put things in his mouth, etc--it's just such a relief entering the stage of less wor...

29 week update

How far along? 29 weeks How big is the peanut? about 2.5lbs now, and 15 inches from head to toe. Total weight gain/loss? in the last 4 weeks, I gained 2lbs Maternity clothes? Still a mix mash. a few maternity pants, but mostly still my regular clothes--I had a lot of more flowy tops and stuff in my wardrobe, so they're really lasting! Sleep? Touch and go. I either have an amazing night sleep, or I;m constantly up. My brain won't shut off! Best moment this week? Today I had my check up. Heard her heartbeat (140bpm still), and everything was perfect (blood pressure, results from the glucose test, urine, measurements of my uterus, etc). He scheduled me for an ultrasound to check on cord insertion on June 7, and that should be it if it all looks good :) Down to appointments every two weeks now, which is nuts! Also, I am 27lbs less right now than I was the day I gave birth to Garett--so I'm ahead of the game, thankfully! Symptoms? Lots and lots and lots of movement. Food cravi...

Weekend Recap [Date Night, Commiccon, OGOP Adventure]

Image
It's funny how our weekends are either brutally busy, or totally empty! This weekend was one of the busy ones! Thursday evening I had to deliver all my boxes to the Outgrow Outplay sale about 20 mins from my house. My drop off time was for 5:30 and I was feeling pretty disorganized. I had taken a day off the Friday before to get all the tagging done, but at the last minute, my SIL told me about the consignor agreement I had to print, get a stamped envelope, and label some bins to bring along for when I had to pick stuff up on sunday. I got it all done, they went through my stuff, and I put it all on the racks and headed home. Garett was chillin' with Granny while I was gone there, and Ty was having dinner with a friend, so he picked G-man up on the way home and we settled in for the evening. Tyler had set up for Comiccon weekend on Thursday (they had a big booth and the big gaming space again this year), so it was a big job. Unfortunately for him, they ate dinner...

Garett's bedroom makeover

Image
Second room to get done in the house was Garett's, of course.  He wanted to keep the dinosaur theme, and picked out his own paint colour for this room also :) he selected a green in here, which was perfect! Here is the before (there's that awful yellow) : We moved the majority of his toys into his closet to keep the tucked away, then I can rotate stuff in his room out, or he can just go in and pick what he wants to play with, He kept his ikea leaf and the rustic wood art from etsy. Worked out well!  Took the hutch off the top of his dresser, and turned it into the shelf.  I picked up the dinosaur print decals and the personalized one on etsy. He loves it! We put up navy black out panels from Home Depot  I ordered his bedding from Sears  We switched his toddler bed to the double conversion The lamp looks likes stacked rocks, and is from amazon Mattress and topper from ikea and is the comfiest thing ever, lol Garett's big boy room: complete!

Garett's bathroom makeover

Image
When we moved into this house, every wall in every room was a terrible yellow colour. We are working on getting rid of this, but it's a lot of walls to cover! First room to be done was Garett's bathroom. We went to Dulux and he picked out his own colour. Oddly enough, it was so similar to his nursery colour.  We have never had a medicine cabinet before, so I thought this was so cool!! Lol I haven't found the right art for above the towel rack or toilet yet, but other than that, it's done.  He picked out a fish shower curtain, and since there are so many colours in it, I figured we could just go nuts with colours.  I got him some green and blue towels, and an orange bath mat (at his request--he picked the HARDEST colour to find lol. Finally found at bed, bath and beyond). I also grabbed a Nemo toothbrush holder and a Dori hand soap pump, as well as a Nemo garbage can! I keep bathoys and towels under the sink, and out a basket on the back of the toilet with spare toilet p...

Garett's First Dentist Appointment

Image
I was looking at Garetts teeth closely the other day and noticed what looked like a little hole on one of his teeth, so immediately we booked him a dental appointment. I was already feeling like a bad mom because everyone I spoke with could NOT get over how he was over 3 years old, and had not yet seen the dentist. I just assumed that he would go before he started school, to get into the routine of cleanings, etc--he's a nightly flosser and brushes his teeth 2-3 times a day--in fact, I think he might be a little over zealous in this category. I did want him to get used to his cleanings every 6 months, so we also decided he should head to the office to be introduced to that. Apparently he talked about how he was going to the dentist all day at daycare. We headed right to the office to meet Tyler (he got to have his cleaning yesterday too--I will go back once the baby is born), and as soon as we pulled in he said "I don't want to go in there". Tur...
