The day I spent money on myself

Image
I have always been a firm believer of taking care of yourself before all else. Like on a plane, they always tell you to put your own oxygen mask on before helping your child, or anyone else with theirs? You're no good to other people if you aren't conscious.....I guess that's kind of an extreme comparison, but motherhood is extreme also. I have never been one to poo-poo a little indulgence in myself. That is, until I got pregnant for round 2. I don't know what happened, but I would see myself filling up my virtual shopping carts, and close them, only to go buy MORE clothes, MORE toys, MORE baby stuff, MORE house stuff...because I started putting everyone else first. Why do I need new maternity clothes if Garett only has 25 pairs of pants?? Why do I need these new flats for work if I'm done in 3 months and the baby needs new bedding??? The justifications I previously told myself were falling by the wayside, and I didn't like it. So yesterday, I was f...

Thoughts on Thursday

Here comes randomness: - Life has been crazy lately. I don't understand how my life can feel like such a whirlwind when I work a regular 7-3 job?? I guess that's the perks of a very motivated/successful/busy husband. Your life, by association, becomes busy. Single mom duty gets kicked up a notch, which I am fine with, because there's nothing I love more than chillin' with G at this age, but it makes keeping up with everything else slightly more challenging. -Last night for example, Garett and I headed over to the post office to pick up the nursery bedding that came in. I didn't think the box would be so large. Like, it didn't fit in the cart. And Garett is in the "I'll do it myself " phase, so would NOT get in the cart, but wanted to walk beside me. Fine. Except I have this fear of him jetting out in front of me and getting lost, or running into traffic (I think this is a normal motherly fear), so I was holding the box in one arm (somehow) and ...

My "mom" wish list

Image
I won't call it my Mother's Day wish list, since some of the things are absurd and obviously I would not expect them from anyone but myself. But when my husband starts asking me about things I want for mother's day, I start going crazy! haha 1) A splash/fun zone for the backyard in the summer. This one is obviously too big, but I love that it's inflatable, and is a water play thing. G loves to splash around, and this would keep him so busy all summer long, while I am a beached whale on the outskirts. Funny how toys for other people start creeping in on your own "want list" when you become a mom!? 2) A new car. It's nice not to have car payments on my own vehicle, since we have two new trucks now. But I can't help but want my new car now. Definitely not before the baby is born...but maybe halfway through my maternity leave I will bite the bullet. Ford Edge is what I'm leaning towards :) We are kind of VIP's at the ford deale...

Exhaustion Woes

I'm tired. I dug down deep this morning to find the motivation to get out of bed. The to-do list at home is out of control, and with work being more quiet as we enter the summer months when EVERYONE and their dogs are off, things really stand still. This makes me want to stay home even more because 1) it's nice out, and I don't want to be stuck indoors, lol 2) I could get so much done at home in the time it's quiet here. I finalized my dates for maternity leave late last week. I officially start on July 11, so my last day in the office would have been July 8. But since daycare is closed July 4-15, I decided I will come in on July 4--Ty can deal with that day, and then I'll take off the rest of the week as vacation before my maternity leave starts. So I definitely have a countdown going :) Last night felt so hectic. I was a few minutes late leaving work, so really hit the traffic. Finally got Garett, got home, got the mail and went to open the door. I forgot I ha...

What to pack in you Hospital Bag : ROUND TWO

Image
Looking back on my last hospital bag post when I had Garett, I think I had a few extra things in there I didn't necessarily need. It was all small stuff that I packed extra, so it was no big deal. But I found there were a few things I wish I had had last time also, or certain things I packed that I thanked god I thought of! So here is my list of necessities this time around! 1) My Rebel T3i. Last time all we had was our cell phones/ipads to take pictures, and honestly? What the heck were we thinking??? Now all of Garett's newborn photos are crummy cell phone pictures. This time, I won't be in the same boat. I want baby girl to have some seriously nice/cute pictures! 2) Last time we sent an edible arrangement and flowers to the nurses after we checked out since they were so amazing. This time, we will likely do the same, but I want to have little things on hand also to hand out when they come and visit! We are ordering these funky syringe p...

Things I have ordered lately

Image
For those that know me well, know I like to shop online because I like to hunt for deals. If shipping is free, and the item is on sale, I will save myself a trip, and have it delivered to the door. Now that Garett likes to sit in the big part of the cart, and I find it hard sometimes to get him out of the top seat when we are on our own (blame the growing belly and my lack of strength lol), it really minimizes car space, so I like to make my big purchases online :) With a growing family (both with another child coming, and with G literally growing like crazy), we are in perpetual need now of "stuff". Here are some recent purchases. 1) The Evenflo Maestro Harness Booster Carseat-Phoenix. -Lately I have been finding that the 3 in 1's we bought when Garett left his stage 1 seat have been looking a little short. I don't like that in the seats he's in now, his head is starting to poke over the top of the back. It doesn't look safe (and I t...

Weekend Recap

This weekend was the CAPE event in Cornwall. Since Tyler's store had a booth, and were running the big gaming space, it was all hands on deck at the store and at the event. So we decided Friday night that we would just spend the night at my parents house there. That way G and I could get more visiting in. Ty was originally supposed to only go up on the Sunday, but at the last minute, there was just too much to do, and he ended up having to go for both days. So Friday night we ran some errands--stopped at Canadian Tire for a new garbage can, some compost bags, to check a battery, and we picked up a new bike and helmet for our boy. He picked a Spiderman bike! Little cutie. Then we grabbed some dinner, went home, had baths and we packed our bags! Saturday morning we didn't set our alarms and slept until almost 7. When we got up, we ran through the Tim's drive thru, went to the store to pick up some last minute things for the show and hit the road. ...

Friday! And a Weekend look-ahead

Yesterday was so beautiful, it was painful to be stuck inside! Today? It's definitely a cozy inside day, so I have no problems being here. When I picked G-man up from daycare yesterday, they were decorating cupcakes they had made together earlier in the day. He is always the first to get his turn at baking time because he is the first to get picked up. So he had his cupcake iced, and he was trying to pick out some sprinkles. Finally, he had satisfied his creative side, and we were in the car. On the way home Garett asked "mommy do we have ingredients for more cupcakes?". I have no problem with randomly baking, and feeding into that love. I always loved baking, so why not encourage him to love it as well? I took him to the grocery store to pick out some sprinkles--of course he picked the box with like 6 different types. I also grabbed a thing of icing, because less messes. So we headed home, and got to mixing up the batter. We had bought some winnie the pooh cupcake li...

25 week pregnancy update

Image
Baby number two problems begin with not having a new picture, on the exact day of each month, to measure growth. I have probably only taken 2-3 pictures in the mirror this entire pregnancy. For Garett, I lived in front of the mirror. I wanted to document every single day, every single cm of growth. Not that I'm less enthusiastic about it this time, but there's just so much other stuff going on that it generally falls to the bottom of my "I NEED TO GET THIS DONE NOW" list. But lo-and behold, I got a 25 week picture in. This was on Sunday, so I was actually 24 weeks and 6 days here, lol Anyways, I'm trying to at least be on top of my weekly updates for now. So without further delay: How far along? 25 weeks +3days How big is the peanut? approx. 1 and 1/2lbs now, and supposedly 13 1/2inches Total weight gain/loss? In the 4 weeks since my last appointment, I had gained 4lbs. So I'm just about back to starting weight of when I found out I was pregnant. ...

Weekend Recap

I tried to upload pictures this morning before heading in, but it didn't work, so I'll just do a photo dump another time :) Friday: Garett had a PJ/Movie day at daycare, so he picked out his monster PJ's and slippers and headed out for the day. They watched the movie "All creatures big and small" (never heard of it), but she said he cuddled up to everyone under a blanket, ate their snacks and enjoyed. It was also a beautiful day, so they got lots of outside time in :) Tyler was home early, and we did some stuff around the house, the boys put daddy's new springs on the truck, and grilled up some steaks and I made some baked potatoes, yellow beans and salad. Ty headed out to golf around 6pm. Him and three others were heading to the west-end to the indoor Golf-o-max. He was home around 10, so G and I had only 2 hours before bed alone together. So we played and watched some cartoons. Saturday: Garett was up bright and early (like 6 am). We got dressed ...

Wednesday: What's up

Image
Yesterday was seriously so long, it feels like I'm coming back to work after a weekend haha. On Monday, it was so quiet at work (the day flew by though, surprisingly!), so I hunkered down to find a bedding that I liked for the nursery. I looked everywhere and couldn't find anything I liked. If you know me, you know I despise theming a nursery. I think nursery's should just be warm/welcoming/cozy places. I mean, it doesn't last long anyways before the baby grows up and has an opinion of what they want their room to look like *cough* Garett *cough* haha We chose a lavender/lilac colour for her room, so I knew the bedding had to have a soft purple in it, but that's probably the only purple accent in the room, since I don't want to overkill. So we will do grey and white also. I saw this bedding, and fell in love. The Damask design is what we used as the accent design at our wedding. Obviously I am very fond of it still. So I put the order in and it's sh...

24 week pregnancy update

How far along? 24 weeks today How big is the peanut? At my last ultrasound on March 30, baby was just under a pound. Apparently now, she should be about the size of an ear of corn, and just over a lb. Total weight gain/loss? lost two more pounds. I go back April 19 to see my doctor. Belly and everything appear to be growing fine, so he's not worried about any weight loss I am seeing. She must just be pulling everything and then some, I guess! Maternity clothes? Not yet. My pants still fit comfortably. I have a few items I kept from pregnancy with Garett, but will need some summery stuff soon--tough having two different season babies AND two different genders. Can't reuse baby stuff OR maternity clothes lol. Sleep? Doing a bit better in this area. If I don't put the pillow under my belly and between my knees, I wake up quite stiff. But for the most part, I only wake up once through the night and am starting to have normal sleep again. Best moment this week? Tyler felt some p...

Weekend Recap

Image
Another weekend in the books. This one was spent close to home, and just enjoying "normal". Friday night: Tyler started the cottage show this weekend--it was from 12-9 on Friday, but he spent the morning setting up the booth, and came home around 3:30, which was nice. We played, hung out together, all had nice soaks in the tub. Around 7, he headed out to his aunt moes surprise 60th birthday party. Garett and I stayed home, since the party was at a big bar on St. Laurent, it was definitely not a kid-friendly event. Garett and I ended up passing out in my bed, and I woke up when Tyler got home, and realized G was still there, so brought him to his bed, lol. I had purchased the new season of Teen Mom with the intention of watching all three episodes I'm behind on that night while I waited for Ty to get home, but--as you can see, I failed haha. I think I watched 20 mins of one episode before I fell asleep. oops :) Saturday: Garett was up bright and early. I left ...
