Our Weekend

What a lovely weekend. Things are beginning to calm down a bit for Tyler--or at least he is "letting go" of the reigns a tiny bit, so we are enjoying having him around earlier in the evenings, and more available to do things with us on weekends :) This weekend we planned on doing something special to share the days with G and us together, since he has a lot of one on one mommy time coming up in July.

I had mentioned that I needed to get more stuff on my 29 before 29 list checked off, and since G is a bit too young to take horseback riding, we decided the zoo would be the best bet. When I had put the zoo on my list, since I have never been to one, I imagined a weekend trip to Toronto to go to the zoo there. But the sheer size of the zoo there is a bit overwhelming for a kid his age, and there's no way we were making the drive with G, or putting him in a small commuter plane. So, off to Papanack we went on Saturday! I had never been before, so I wasn't expecting much. But it was actually a lot of fun! We saw a ton of animals (Garett's favourites of the day were the goats, Wallabies, and the baby Lemurs). He kept asking "mommy, I hold it?" to all of the animals--tigers, timberwolves, etc...sorry babes, maybe someday if you become a zoologist. But that day is NOT today, lol.

When we arrived, we bought the tickets and a big bucket of food to give to the animals. We received a feeding schedule, where they feed the animals and give a 15 minute inservice on each animal, so we wanted to see a few of them. So before we started, we walked around the nature trails, which had the Kangaroos, Wallabies, zebras, some baby goats, bunnies, a baby lion, some other baby cats like that, etc...Garett loved the baby lion, so we stayed there to listen to his caretaker talk for a few minutes.

After that, we were a bit early on the feeding schedule, so we decided to feed ourselves. While we waited for the food to be cooked, we played on the big playground they have. We didn't make it past the old golf cart they buried partially into the ground. He dominated that toy for probably 20 minutes (he loves steering wheels and pedals lol), and then chowed down on his hot dog, juice and fries. We were ready to tackle the rest of the zoo, and boy was there a lot of it! He only sat in the stroller for two minute increments, and insisted on walking most of it. He fed some horses around the Monkey cages and after another hour or so of walking, we had made it through. So he went into the petting zoo with Ty, as I waited on the outside of the fence and fed some of the goats the rest of the carrots in our bucket. We made a quick stop at the gift shop, where we  picked up a stuffed alligator on a leash for G, and a fridge magnet for my collection of places we've been.

We switched out our running shoes for sandals (it was a lot muddier than I expected--next time we will bring rain boots so he can play in the mud and puddles lol)--I don't think we made it out of the parking lot before G was out cold. It was three hours in total, and he was totally zonked!

We stopped by Ty's store so he could use the washroom and grab us some bottled water, stopped at the LCBO for a sommersby and bought some new Bacardi Fuego, and stopped at the Loblaws for a citrus mint carbonated water to mix it with. We just discovered this drink, and it tastes like the islands. SO good.

Garett woke up as we were pulling into Rod and Sharons driveway. They had invited us over for a family bbq with Sharons family, so we poured a little Fuego drink for everyone, and G played in the little splash pool, and then had a little snack at the Thomas table. Their Grandson, Marcus arrived shortly after, and after a few minutes for Marcus to warm up again, we were looking for Santa, playing with the doggies, watching Thomas and eating dinner in no time. We packed up shop around 5:30 and headed home. We played a bit when we got home, but G was more into lounging and watching a few of his shows. Can't say I blame him! lol We were all in bed pretty early--G was in bed by 8:20 and I think I was out cold by 9.

Sunday morning G slept in a bit--until 7:30, and woke up and played hard. He had his breakfast a bit later since I made a big breakfast, and headed down for his nap around 12:30. My parents ended up surprising us with a short visit, but G slept for the first little bit they were there. He surprised the heck out of us by coming down the stairs (probably heard my dads voice) after he woke up lol. Cutie. So we played in his toyroom for a bit before they had to head out again. It was a nice visit, though very short :) Garett spent the next hour munching away on a variety of foods, and then played with his playdough for another 30 minutes in his highchair, which is great. Gotta love playdough! So I emptied the dishwasher, and started dinner. Tyler decided on tacos, so that's what we did!G kept asking "what are you cooking, mommy?" And I would say "Tacos!" and he would yell "YAY! TACOS" lol.

We each had a nice relaxing bath to cap off a wonderfully lazy and busy weekend and headed to bed early. G asked to go to bed around 8:25, and I think I was long asleep by 9:15. He woke up at 1:10 half asleep and came into our room asking for cartoons. I think he was half asleep and had been dreaming about cartoons lol. So I  put him back to bed and he was out until 6 when we all got up to get ready for Monday!

I am dragging my butt a bit today, admittedly. I am pooped. This is my last full week at work for 3 weeks, which is nice, but I assume it'll be a hard week to get through!

We are supposed to have a few people over on Saturday night as well, but not sure if we will be up for it. I hate being "those" people that cancel things, but sometimes you just gotta get a good nights sleep, you know? lol No shame! Especially with a VERY busy month coming up. I will take all the rest and relaxation I can get :)

Hope everyone had a great father's day weekend, and spoiled their daddies rotten!

Here are some scenes from our weekend past :)
