When food disappoints
I usually love the homemade soups at my work. Their red pepper and tomato soup is something I dream about, so it's not out of the scope of reality for me to try the new concoctions. I was seriously disappointed when I ordered a sweet potato bisque. Pretty much just boiled sweet potato purée with a touch of cream. I dumped a bunch if salt and pepper in, and still nothing, no taste other than like biting into a sweet potato. Interesting. Not so much.
I was starving. I didn't have time to go get something else, so I forced down as much as I could until I thought I would throw up.
It was so thick, my spoon easily stood straight in it. Lesson learned!
As I sat starving on the way home I thought of dinner.
I wanted everything. So I decided on a variety.
I had marinated some chicken and froze it with a rub on to grill later. It was a red pepper and garlic rub. Ty bbq'd it to perfection. It was so so juicy.
Then I roasted some small potatoes and in the last few mins tossed them in olive oil, garlic and parsley.
Then I made some corn on the cob, I bought fresh at the market the other day. G had been begging for it everytime I opened the fridge , so I cooked it lol.
Then I was going to do garlic bread, but took it a step farther. I brushed set bread with olive oil and puréed garlic, broiled it for a few mins until crispy, then changed the oven to bake and spread some of this new wine jelly I found at the store as the base (a thin coat on top of the bread):
Then I sautéed some shiitake mushrooms in butter and seasoning, put that on top, crumbled some goat cheese, and stuck it in the oven for a few more mins, cut off the crusts, cut in half and devoured.
I had a cake for dessert, but we were both so full, we never got to it.
Nothing like a horrible lunch to make you a glutton at dinner. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a nice glass of wine, but I had no white left :(
