Things I like to do to keep life interesting..

I feel like my tolerance for a mundane life is very low. My biggest fear in life is to be bored. To have nowhere more to grow, to be stuck. Sometimes in life though, I feel very antisocial, and I can go a few days with wanting to sit at home and do nothing. That feeling quickly wears off and I panic and need to do something. Learn something. Absorb knowledge, experiences, memories. Introduce people (generally G, or Ty) to things, etc. Life is about living, not sitting and doing nothing.

Lately, this bug has bit me really hard. I am so afraid of that stagnancy that comes with routine. My weekdays have enough structure and routine, I want MY time to be fun. I want my child and my husband to think "wow, she's such a hoot!!" (yes, I said hoot).

While structure is nice through the week, and is something I sometimes need, I get grumpy when things become too rigid. If I HAVE to do things day in and day out, I get peeved. You will catch me snapping, rolling my eyes, crying, complaining a lot more, etc. Structure takes the sun out of life to me. I don't know what this means, or what I'm destined to do with my life, but I can tell you that I thrive in situations of chaos (there's probably some therapy session I need to go to somewhere to fix this).

Anyways, it's all about the little things in life. Since none of us have yet won the $43 million lottomax, we are confined to a somewhat normal life. We like to travel, but work won't allow me to take 12 weeks a year to jetset around the world. And to be realistic, I'm not ready to drag my kid onto plane after plane (props to you people that do). So here are the small things that make me feel like I'm making changes to my "normal":

1) I always pick something new when I'm grocery shopping. Whether it be a different fruit, a new cracker, a new product of sorts. I hate to walk out of the store without one new thing to discover. Often it's a "well that was interesting, but will never be purchased again" learning experience, but at least we can say we tried it! Sometimes we love an item so much it gets added to the grocery list permanently. This is a small win to me!

2) Trying new things locally.  go walk around areas you don't frequent, attend events outside of your comfort zone, take a class, learn a skill--there's so much under our noses and we just take it all for granted. Get out and do things. We get so sick of doing the same things. I can't tell you the last time we went to the movie theatre, or went mini golfing. How much is one person expected to do these activities?!! I hate the idea of it, even.

3) Try not to always eat out at the same place. We LOVE our favourites, and I generally separate breakfast from this category, because it's VERY hard to find a good breakfast place, so you have to stick with what's good. But dinner? We hate eating at the same place over and over. I will google and read reviews. We don't like dives, and we don't want to spend $400 everytime we go out. We will splurge for special occasions, but general rule is a dinner under $150 when we go out together, sans Garett. Half of the fun is the rush I get from finding the place!

4) Staying at hotels. I like to also find new hotels for us to stay at when we have date nights, or are out of town. Tyler gives me free reign in this category, because he hates finding hotels, and appreciates the rooms I end up picking. Hotels are a cheap way of feeling refreshed, and feeling like you just came back from a small vacation!

5) Going through old items and purging. When I feel sick of everything, I like to clean/organize. I am more of a minimalist than a lot of people, I don't like to hoard things (aside from toys and clothes lol), so you won't see much clutter/knick knacks in my house. I decorate rooms with non-sentimental items, and throw them out on a whim and buy new stuff. The constant decorating rotation is fun for me, and keeps me from buying and selling new houses every 6 months (yes, that's how often I get the itch to move).

6) Speaking of the itch to move, I always like to be apprised to the real estate situation. I get a few areas in mind that I want to live in next, and obsessively look at MLS.ca in these areas. Is there anything worth moving for at this moment? It is also beneficial because it gives me an idea on how much our house is worth at that moment, and what I am really looking for in the next move. I think people see us as impulsive when it comes to buying things, but they never see the behind the scenes of how long I actually looked things up for before we make the dive.

7) Blog. I don't know why recapping my everyday life helps fight boredom, but it really does. I think also reading about other peoples lives and events helps! I love reading about peoples daily life, new babies, weddings, complaints, etc...it either gives me perspective, or I can laugh and relate.

8) Fill carts online and decide whether or not to buy. My favourite hobby when I'm bored out of my tree: online shopping. I either shop and buy for a purpose, or fill up my imaginary "dream" cart--generally I close out of the website and don't feel bad, because I had my fun, but sometimes I think about it and obsess over the cart and need to go on and buy it all.

See, even talking about these all make me feel better about my boring day at work ! :)

What do you do to keep occupied/Entertained/Excited with life on a daily basis?

PS. This is my 401st post!!! lol
